In a recent photo of Dr. Bear, I noticed a copy of "The Baseball Encyclopedia" on the bookshelf behind him.

    Trivia Challenge:

What former Cy Young winner holds a Ph.D.?

I can offer two tickets to an Angel game for the first correct answer. (Yes, I know it's the Angels but it's still baseball. Someone suggested I should offer two games for the first incorrect answer.)

Marshall Shmarshall. My man of the moment is Specs Torporcer. Last night, in fantasy computer baseball, replaying the 1926 World Series, Yankees vs. Cardinals, he comes up for St. Louis in the 7th game, bottom of the 14th, tie score, two out, no one on. Lays down a perfect bunt; steals second; and scores on a Bottomley bloop single. And in the real world, one of Specs' two claims to fame is that he was the first infielder ever to play wearing glasses.

So how about the all-star pro football player who earned his Ph.D. while still playing ball?

A free ticket to the next home game of the Boston Redskins for the first answer.

(Yes, that's a real NFL team. Made the playoffs 2 years before I was born. But perhaps they moved since then.)
