    CJ degrees

I read somewhere that Criminal Justice is the second most popular college major after Psychology. Maybe all those High School kids watched CSI-Fargo or something.

Certainly the MCJ is in demand; you can earn one from New Mexico State University either on-campus or completely on-line. Criminal Justice Graduate Programs | Criminal Justice Department | New Mexico State University

Personally, I think doing an MCJ would be interesting but I have worked in the criminal justice system for thirty years. I wouldn't be earning the degree for career purposes.

Oh, and as an aside...the previous poster is right. Philosophy, engineering, applied math and similar majors requiring close analysis are probably the best background for law school. My bias favors philosophy because reasoning ability alone isn't enough; you must also be able to write clearly and persuasively. But then, no one should go to law school these days at all!

Most of the rankings I've looked at have said that business administration is the most popular major with psychology being second. Some lists have criminal justice in the top 10 while others don't. I guess a master's in CJ would be in demand if you want to teach as an adjunct. Seeing all of the job openings, it almost makes me wish I had gotten my master's in CJ, but I should have 18 graduate credit hours soon. I thought there would be more openings for homeland security, but there are very few. With my masters, I don't think anyone, other than NA colleges, would hire me to teach anything other than homeland security, national security, and maybe international relations.
