I just finished my CCNA and am working towards my CCNP certification, the college I took them through offers them as non credit. They also don't offer any credit classes for them to assess credit towards. Does anyone know what DL schools would accept them as and if so how many credits I could get towards my BS in CIS or MIS for them? thanks, Daniel
I believe Capella University accepts professional certifications into their BS in Information Tehnology program. You can find more information about it at http://www.capellauniversity.edu/aspscripts/centers/learner/petition_center/petition/docs.asp.
ACE-reviewed exams and certifications are listed at: http://www.acenet.edu/calec/corporate/certif-exam.cfm I don't see Red Hat or Cisco on that list, but I do see a lot of stuff that wasn't there when I was using ACE/PONSI recommendations for Regents credit. It's probably worth checking back every couple of months. I wouldn't be surprised if Cisco and Red Hat are working with the ACE to get their programs evaluated for credit. Good luck. TommyK
Cisco credit at Capella Hi there, The previous post about receiving credit at Capella is correct. One may waive up to 5 courses in pursuit of the graduate degree in IT/CS for either a CCNP or MCSE certification. However, if speed is your goal, Capella's course run longer than say, Regis. Regis doesn't offer credit off for certifications but when I did the math I'd finish as soon as I would have with Capella with the 'time served' for ceritifications. I like the program selection better with Regis (for my taste, which is after all individual). I figure I'll be more excited with more variety in my classes than having a very long running class. If cost is a big issue then you'd have to pay more for more classes. After the 5 classes off you only have to do like 7 classes at Capella. Hope this helps, Cyndy
Thanks for all the replies, I'm looking into Capella now as well, was originally just TESC and Regents. I have the MCSE and CCNA, should be done my CCNP in a few more months, do you know of I can get 5 courses worth of credit for the CCNP and 5 more for the MCSE or is it a one or the other sort of thing? thanks again, Daniel
No, there's a cap on how many you can get out of at Capella. I think its the same 5 classes for both the CCNP and MCSE certs. Their website provides a table of which 5 classes they are. 5 is the max you can get out of - regardless.
