So far I've managed to test out of 66 general ed credits ( thanks to everyone for being a motivation) and plan to test out for the COSC BA with an Individualized Study Concentration. I've spoken to COSC, and although very responsive, they wont help me work out the tests I need to take for the concentration. Can someone help me or point me in the right direction? Below is what I'd like to take. Upper – 15 Credits DANTES Management Information Systems – passed 2004 ECE Ethics Theory & Practice ECE Organization Behavior ECE Labor Relations ECE Management of Human Resources Intermediate – 12 Credits DANTES Fundamentals of Counseling – passed 2004 CLEP Human Growth and Development CLEP Introduction to Educational Psychology DANTES Intro to World Religion
COSC Individualized Studies concentration is a combination of whatever you want to make a logical combination of classes. You need to explain how the combination has helped you or will help you in the future. Just a quick look at your credits, I would go with Business & Psychology as a combination. The go with the need to understand the basics of psy to succeed in business.
My concentration at COSC was Business and Human Behavior. These were my classes/exams: Psychology of Adulthood & Aging (e) Human Resource Management (e) Labor Relations (e) Drug & Alcohol Abuse (d) Money & Banking (d) Organizational Behavior (d) Fundamentals of Counseling (d) Human Growth & Development (c) Intro to Educational Psychology (c) Principles of Supervision (d) Introduction to Business (d) Principles of Macroeconomics (c) Principles of Microeconomics (c) Principles of Marketing (c) (e)=Excelsior, (d)=Dantes, (c)=CLEP Requirements at COSC have changed and I think they require three more upper level credits now.
I have heard that getting the concentration appoved is tough? Does anyone have any feedback on this? I have decided Excelsior was easier, but if my COSC concentration of Psychology and Business were to get approved it would be easier to go with COSC. Thanks
Mine was approved on the first try. Wasn't hard at all. It's all in how you sell it in your proposal.
My concentration was approved on the first run. The key is the essay, which is only 750-900 words. I went with Literature/History/Communication and used the essay to explain why I felt they all went together.
Re: Re: COSC Individualized Study Concentration I just have a question. I am thinking of transferring over to COSC, I just want to complete my Bachelors so I will pursue a degree in Liberal studies or General studies. Will I still need a concentration? Please advise, Thanks, Abner
Re: Re: Re: COSC Individualized Study Concentration Yes and no. You can not just say, "here is 120 credits...I want a degree." The general ed classes are just that general ed. The upper level classes must follow some rhyme and reason. They do have to be all science for example. They can be a combination of studies that make sense to combine. If the essay turns you off COSC, read my essays. The rejected and accepted ones are posted here - http://www.degreeinfo.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16797
Renshi, I posted about my concentration and the classes/exams I used in this thread: http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10649
