congratulations from Excelsior

Rosie's online Student Status Report at Excelsior College was updated today. It now says: "Congratulations! It appears you have satisfied your degree requirements. Your file has been forwarded to the Academic Evaluation Specialists for further processing."

She's not quite done yet. She wants the major in Psychology, for which she still has to wait for the results of one TECEP exam she took, take another Excelsior College Exam, and pass the Statistics course she's currently taking. But by early March...

Please expalin why anyone would want to attend Excelsior. Florida and California are no longer accepting their Nursing grads. What other majors will be next. I certainly wouldn't want to earn a Psychology degree from the likes of this University. I guess, to each their own. Some people have money to throw away.

One doesn't "attend" Excelsior. Colleges that Rosie attended include San Diego State University, UCSD, and Harvard. She sent her transcripts in to Excelsior, together with exam results demonstrating prior knowledge. Excelsior will consolidate them into a degree. A degree has much more utility than scattered credits; and her degree will be recognized, because Excelsior is Regionally Accredited.

Does Excelsior have any other majors that lead directly to professional licensure?

If Excelsior is so terrible, then why are Excelsior College Examinations accepted for degree credit at more than 800 other colleges? Why are Harvard, Yale, Cornell, Rutgers, and Berkeley among the universities that have accepted Excelsior graduates? Why did a Harvard affiliate start a program to promote Excelsior's degrees in Latin America?

Actually, I agree that Rosie won't know as much about Psychology as a brick-and-mortar Psychology major. She's never taken a Psychology course in her life: all her Psychology credits are coming from multiple-choice exams. But it was a last-minute decision to upgrade from the "Liberal Studies" option to the Major in Psychology (she's also going to have an Area of Focus in Education, a Depth Area in Romance Languages, and credits in many other subjects); and I think it's wonderful that we're able to do this.

I'm about halfway through my Statistics course, my final requirement to complete my BS at Excelsior. Glad it's almost over!

Just wild guess - to attend graduate school? Oh, right, very few schools accept Excelsior BS for admission purposes - only about 99% of them!

Congratulations on your fast approaching graduation, your decision to obtain a degree will surely enrich your life. I wish you all the luck in the world, and forget that Dr. bok guy that said that stuff about excelsior. Mark is right, it's regionally accredited, and I know for a fact it is well known and accepted. I live in northern va, the fastest growing job community in the nation (loudoun county) where there are many remote campuses for schools (odu, mason, phoenix, strayer, gibbs, stratford U, etc....) and adults that receive degrees via distance learning are seen as hard workers, balancing work and school, and thus are offered more challenging and rewarding positions than younger, inexperienced college grads. Excelsior is a well known school, and offers and excellent program from what I can see, so hold your head high, and take pride in your perseverance and degree

Do you know how long it takes from the time one's evaluation says that all requirements are met, until the time one graduates?

Excelsior should have all my exam scores by mid May and I'm wondering how fast I should expect to graduate. I know they do a graduation ceremony every month, but how long does the review by the Academic Evaluation Specialists take and what is the cut off date for the monthly graduation?

"Ceremony" is the wrong word. There's a graduation date every month (after which you get your diploma in the mail; the most recent graduation date was March 19), but only one commencement ceremony a year (in July).
