    Re: changing the subject?

USA Today is a main source of advertising. The Economist also runs these kinds of ads. I've seen them in other magazines like Psychology Today as well. I wonder, though, if the Internet has superceded them all. With cross-posting of links, search engines selling ads and preferential listing, and diploma mills who create fictitious websites that inevitably take the surfer to the mill's site (K-WU is the king of this, not that it's a diploma mill or anything), I suspect the pay-as-you-click environment of the internet doesn't provide the best value.

Respect for all members. Right. Like when I made a factual post critical of CCU and received FOUR personal attacks (including one ethnic slur) which were later removed by the moderator? (By the way, these were attacks by some of the most prominent posters at Collegehints.)

Or perhaps a better example is when one of these same posters referred to me as "trailer trash." Is that what you mean?

Funny you would say that, Rod, since you were one of the people at Collegehints who insulted me and had your post removed by the moderator.

Jeff, I honestly don't remember responding to any of your posts there, much less insulting you... and I am not aware that any of my posts have ever been removed. Can you enlighten me to shorten my search?

It was in the following thread:

Of course, the post in question is no longer there.

Under the new moderator such posts at CH would not be allowed to appear for more than a very short time.

This link doesn't work for me. Can't imagine that you would say anything about CCU that would get me rattled enough to insult you with name calling. I debate with facts or professional opinion with perhaps a little driblet of humor tossed in. If you peruse my 130+ posts there you will see that is true. I'll look into it.

The URL Jeff supplied doesn't work if I click on it, but does work if I copy-paste it into my browser.

Not to beat a dying horse but I did pull up the thread. I didn't know J.H. Jr. was you, and sorry to see that you were banned. Anyway, here is the most trenchant of my posts in response to your suggestion that you were going to complain to DETC that they should not let current CCU doctoral students graduate:

"I'm not exactly sure what your point is... are you suggesting that the school should terminate all students who may have been engaged in a doctoral program at the time of the school's application? Do you have a clear understanding of the amount of time it takes to complete a doctorate? CCU did suspend its doctoral programs (no new starts) at the time of application, however DETC permits applicant schools to let those students who were already enrolled to continue since it would be a hardship and unreasonable otherwise. If that is your position, yes by all means, write and let the DETC know of your inflexible and unfounded opinion. It will undoubtedly be a source of great amusement."

My other posts in that thread were benign, so I don't think you've got the right guy.

Thank you, Mark, for the grammar lessons. If you had a Pay Pal account I'd send a few bucks your way.

I always enjoy reading your posts. The information contained therein, with such grammatical profundity, are enlightening!

Unless of course they attacked Rich! I think it is ironic that the regulars that post there have no clue to their own bias and the unfounded attacks they make. But, that is no problem. It makes it that much easier for outsiders to understand what CH is all about.

    Simply untrue.

Every post critical of Rich is removed. While Rich was there, they were not.

Not so. If the poster merely omits a name, the post remains. So certain posters are free to fill the threads with thinly veiled innuendo--on subjects they have no clue about, no less.

You've engaged in it. They don't like what I say, so you/they attack Union--usually without the relevant facts straight, of course. Then they remove my name, but make snide comments about the scholarship levels of Union graduates--only two of which they actually know in these boards. (And only one--me--who has posted on CollegeHints.) It is both transparent and sleazy. But it is central to the board's purpose.

Guilty. How did you figure it out?

If someone says something that I don't agree with, I don't bow to their greater wisdom. I return it in kind.

    This surprises you??

I don't have quite the level of obsession of some of your friends.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: A couple of points

Fair enough. But it's not because I didn't try. In the very thread we are discussing, I stated:

    "My name is Jeff Hampton."

Perhaps you missed the following statement in my previous post:

"Of course, the post in question is no longer there."

Yes, your remaining posts are benign. The offensive one was removed.

The post that referred to me as "trailer trash" was made under the new moderator, and it is still there.

By the way, the four posts attacking me were only removed when I pointed out that they violated the TOS. The moderator had clearly read them previously, since he personally posted on the same thread after the comments were made. Apparently, he thought these personal attacks were just fine, until I pointed out the clear violation. I was banned a few days later.

In the CH thread in question, Henrik just posted a very nice and noble note about not bashing people unable to respond. (Obviously, because they've been banned.) It was a nice gesture.

You said you lived in an area of Austin known as Bubbaland and you wonder how the term trailer trash came up. Incidently there is no indication that you were called trailer trash.

As many times as I have been on the southside of Austin, I have never seen a trailer park.....

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: A couple of points

Yes, and I was called a racist for using the term "Bubba." I explained that around here, "Bubba" is not at all deragatory, and is certainly not racist.

Apparently in order to prove what a racist I am, the accuser made the "trailer trash" comment. I'm not sure how referring to me (or at least people from my part of the country) as trailer trash demonstrates that I am a racist, but this is a post made in Bizarro-world, after all.

And although Bubba is a compliment in South Austin, if someone calls you "trailer trash," well, "them are fightin' words."
