CNN has a diploma mills story that is ready to air on "Paula Zahn NOW." The broadcast date is still uncertain, but the best estimate is for it to be shown Wednesday, December 7. (Tomorrow!) There is material concerning the St. Regis investigation, and other matters.

    Here's more information:

    "Paula Zahn NOW"
    http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/paula.zahn.now/

    Eastern time zone: 8pm - 9pm
    Central time zone: 7pm - 8pm
    Pacific time zone: 5pm - 6pm
(I assume it's at 6pm in the Mountain time zone.)

The description of the program on the CNN site is umm... a little over the top, but what the heck:

Were you interviewed, George? Or did you provide background? Better yet, will we see you on the air... er... I mean... on the cable?

CNN had this story on last night - mainly discussed Rochelle University and how the FBI was able to get a MS in Chemistry while posing as a terrorist. Supposedly several indictments have been made on diploma mill operators in the US.

I caught it, and it dealt with:

    1) The downfall of the St. Regis group, though I don't have a good enough background to rate it.

    2) Used Rochville as their test case and showed that it had no physical existence. Mentioned half of their degrees are going to Saudi Arabia.

    3) IMO, The only good point they made was that any foreigner could attempt (and probably get) an H-1B Visa based on a milled degree. H-1B nonimmigrant visas are meant for foreigners with special skills and abilities who want to come to the US temporarily to work.

So, get a PhD in Molecular Biology from Northern Washington, and it serves as a gateway to an H-1B and/or other credentials.

    a link to the video

    Hi folks,

CNN has the video available online for the diploma mills report. The following URL will bring up a CNN page that has a link (in the small green box, right side of the page) to the story:

    http://search.cnn.com/pages/search.jsp?query=diploma

The title of the piece is "Degrees in terrorism."

Because of time constraints, the Liberia connection was left out of the broadcast.

It's too bad that this search also brings up ads on the CNN page for millish stuff!

Another diploma mill story ? Let me guess what happens. Host will exhibit appropriate outrage as some fake schools are uncovered. Several degree holders are confronted in a parking lot on the way to their cars all the while saying how tough it was to get the degree. A few will lose their jobs. Employers will be shocked. But the fake schools will live on as though nothing happened.

How about the reporters crash the BPPVE offices demanding to know why PWU ,Newport etc are Cal approved? They also demand to know why Ireland is rounding up PWU grads while the BPPVE sits quietly by.Then they storm the Calif. licensing boards demanding to know why these schools can sit for exams. Then they demand answers from the authorities who have been supposedly investigating PWU since the 70's but have done little if anything about it. That's what I'd like to see.
