    Hi,
I have a doubt about clep.

I have my exam in 2 weeks....and I was told that there is a website called "Instantcert", which has qs for each clep exam (I will b givng BIO) ...now I want to know whether the qs given on the website help ? I mean r the qs somewhat similar to the final test....is it worth spending money?

Anybody who has any idea abt this pl elt me know as soon as possible.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Ravli,

I use it as a source of information - I think the questions are distilled from other guides, so its longevity is probably questionable.

Having said this, I feel it has been useful.

They have CLEP Biology listed with 878 sample questions. If you have 2 more weeks to study you may also want to get other sources of information.

    Cheers,
    Mark

    Hi Ravli

I think Guitarmark has it correct. Instantcert is probably very useful for the specific CLEP tests like Management or Marketing. I tried using it fo the Biology test and it was useless. I would get the Biology CLEP guide from Ebay and a used Biology textbook from Goodwill or other thriftstore. I picked up one for $.50 that still had the college bookstore's $45.00 used book tag on it. Two weeks is pretty short if you don't have some previous study in Biology. I would consider taking the pretest and if needed putting the test off for a few weeks.

Yup, Dave is correct. I used IntantCert once for my U.S History I. I memorized all the questions that they have; when I took the exam...there was only two questions that are similar with their study guide.

The way they put "no textbook is required." Yeah, right....I wish I am that smart.

  5. I found the InstantCert info on Criminal Justice to be weak as well. I ended up with a 62, but I felt very uncertain of obtaining a decent grade when I walked out of the exam.

They also have College Math shown - definitely not a "memorize the question and answer" type of exam.

Ravli, assuming you're still game to test in 2 weeks, get a copy of the Official CLEP Study Guide and take the sample exam ASAP. The exam is divided into thirds:

    - molecular/cellular bio
    - organismal bio
    - population bio

Focus on the areas where you're the weakest.

Cliffs has an AP Biology book for sale on Amazon, which may help you as well.

    Good luck...

    Cheers,
    Mark

I tried Instacert and didn't like it. I asked for my money back and got it. I found that the Cliff's Criminal Justice book had about 98% of my test right there. I will look at other Cliff's books if I need any other cleps, which I might depending on what I do.

    Hi All,
    Thanks for all your replies.

After getting views abt the instantcert...I dont think I will buy the stuff.

    Dave,
I have been studying now for almost 3 weeks and still have 2 more weeks...so I think time is not a problem for the test.
One more thing Dave, did your find the qs in the final test to b difficult?
I mean are they the same as the Official guide?
    Lemme know.

Anyways once again thanks for your help guys,
    May God Bless u all,

    Bye.

    CLEP Biology

    Hi Ravli,

I took the CLEP Biology back in August 2003 and missed passing it by 4 points (had to do with full, noisy test center). My test was heavy with Population biology.

I agree with Dave Hayden, the e-bay guide is good. Check your local Goodwill or bookswap store too. I have found some good college textbooks to study from at bookswap stores.

I'll take the opposite tack on this. I signed up with instantcert (back when it was cheap). It's not a "cram the questions, take the exam" format. It's answer the question, read the correct answer and learn the material. I took a slew of clep and dantes and I liked instantcert. Don't need them anymore so I cancelled. From what I've read the format can rub some the wrong way.

    Just my two bits.

    Good luck,

    Mike

    I recommend it!

I used Instant Cert for my Business Law exam. I study for a couple of days (2 or 3). I reviewed the first 3 sections of a possible 8, around 5 times. The other 5 sections I reviewed 2 times. I just memorized as many answers as possible. I spent probably 2 or 4 hours total (maybe a little less).

My Bus Law CLEP, I finished in 38 minutes (out of 90); I finished with a 69 (Only 50 is needed to pass). I flew through the exam and felt I passed in large part to what I learned on Instant Cert.

One thing I learned, was many of the Bus Law CLEP questions were hidden in the Instant Cert answers. Meaning the information was all covered, but it requires more than just memorizing a one word answer. I reviewed no textbooks, nothing but Instant Cert.

My wife graduated with a BS from CSUSM, and said her hardest classs was Bus Law, and she was shoked I passed it so easily. For $20 a month, I highly recommend it, but I will study more for my nextr exams, and not just memorize a one word answer.
