As a Police Officer I have to say Sam Houston is the way to go. They are considered the best in CJ in the law enforcement community. As far as it having to be RA, that’s not true. Federal agencies will take NA as well...they have to take any DoE listed school. But in truth, there is no real competition for these jobs unless you want to work for the CIA or FBI as a field agent. Just look at the Masters Institute/School in DC. It's NA and almost everyone who attends is a Fed. But the choice is up to you and I would make sure with each agency to be safe. My employer will not take NA, but were local. I checked with the FBI and they do take NA.

U of Cin CJ Program Requires GRE

I'm not sure why you are wanting to avoid the GRE, but I thought I'd mention that University of Cincinnati Masters in Criminal Justice program requires that you take the GRE within 6 months of entering the program.

If the issue is simply that you had not yet taken the GRE and thus did not want to delay the start of your masters in order to study for and take the GRE, then that may not be an issue for you. On the other hand, if you do not want to take the GRE at all, ever, then you may want to know that.

Then again, you might want to take the GRE anyway. It's really not that difficult (just slightly more difficult than the SAT), and it really broadens your horizons. There are also plenty of study materials out there.

I had the pleasure of meeting a BU employee that does some work in admissions at the Boston University Metropolitan College. The person didn't speak very highly of the CJ program there and implied that the course work isn't terribly challenging. Just food for thought as you consider your options.
