    Hi everyone,
I am considering the new EdD program at City University of Seattle. Is there anyone here currently enrolling in the program. I know that the program is currently the candidate for accreditation. Is it too risky to apply for the program, since it has not been accredited yet?

City U is as you mention in candidacy status with The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) for the Ed.D. in Leadership (first doctoral degree offering at City); even so, City U is accredited by NWCCU to offer only degrees through the master level at this time. Another consideration that may be of significance as regards education degrees: City University of Seattle is neither an accredited institution nor a candidate for accreditation with NCATE for its present education degrees at the baccalaureate and graduate (master) levels. At this juncture, you may want to additionally consider other doctoral education degree options (?).

You’re welcome. Way back I completed some MBA graduate coursework via DL with City University. During that period, City U seemingly had quite a few students working for Boeing (Seattle). I learned from and enjoyed the courses; however, I considered their tuition rates rather high. Nonetheless at that time, there were not many accredited non-traditional options … unlike the current marketplace. Also, one of our contributors, Ted Heiks, has two MBAs from City U (now City University of Seattle). He would be a much better information source as regards City U of Seattle than me.

Wow, it looks expensive. I cannot image how to get a proper return on investment at those rates unless the tuition was subsidized. When I was a Boeing employee, City U was heavily promoted and subsidized, but that was a few decades ago.

As I understand it the NCATE accredidation really won't matter on the doctoral level. (That is more of a factor to consider on the masters level)
