I've read quite a number of posts on this forum. I'm now posting once again as I need some advice and everyone here is so knowledgeable. I currently have about 36 credits and am attending Clovis Community College. I would LOVE to finish my degree in May 2010. I reside in the Caribbean and unfortunately testing out is not an option. There is 1 University that administers the test once or twice a year.

I'm thinking about going to Charter Oak this fall, do you think I can complete my AA degree in Business by May 2010? This is only if majority of my classes are 8 weeks long - I'll take 2-3 at a time - is that too much? I apologize for all the questions, I really want to be finished and move on to my bachelor's degree. I look forward to any guidance or suggestions you may have to offer.

    ~Thanks~

Charter Oak does not offer an Associates in Business - they only offer a general AA or AS degree. The concentrations are offered for the BA and BS:

If you are going to continue on to a BA/BS/BSBA in business - then the general AA or AS will be of use - just keep moving on.

    Good luck.

PS - If a general degree will be OK (if you are moving on), could you complete through Clovis?

If you are working full-time, concurrently taking more than 2 courses might prove overwhelming especially if you want to maintain a high GPA. I found taking 1 course at a time (8-week schedule) was optimal because I could learn the material, complete the assignments, and still have time to relax during the week.

TCord has been studying through Andrew Jackson University taking multiple courses so perhaps he will chime in with his opinion regarding taking multiple courses at the same time while trying to balance the rest of life.

Since you are planning to take courses on an 8-week semester schedule you might want to look into other schools that include textbooks in the tuition fee. American Public University System offers an AA in Business Administration (undergraduate tuition is USD750.00 per 3-credit course including textbooks). You could realistically complete 10-12 courses each year. On the other hand, if you can handle 2 courses at a time, the AA could be wrapped up by next summer with some effort.

Alternatively, taking independent study courses through Louisiana State University is likely one of the least expensive options and you can complete the courses as quickly as you want and then transfer them into Charter Oak State College. You pay separately for tuition and books.

There are numerous routes to earning an AA in Business. Select whatever path works best for you.

Very good advice...thanks so much!!! I think you are right, 2 classes would give me more time to breathe and enjoy my family! ;) I really do not to complete the class with a high GPA as well - thanks again!

If you're not working, probably not. If you work and/or have a family, then I think three 8-week courses at once is a really heavy workload.
