Haha, I was thinking more like the Titanic, German U-Boats, and Allied cargo ships.

You just KNEW I'd go looking, didn't you?

I'm assuming you mean Dr. Carl Edwin Lindgren, President of the impressively-named, ASIC-accredited International College of Interdisciplinary Sciences. Now, how many points do I get?

Here's the Mother Ship - mother of AIPS, mother of SWAC (the accreditor) and many more bodies. It stands for American Group for Management of Educational Projects.

http-colon-two slashes agmep-dot-us. Contact given is the same Hotmail address as the others. Address is given - in Annandale VA.

The person at the head of American Group for Management..etc., which is the umbrella org. for these U.S. organizations, appears to be Dr. Yousef Damra. His DBA is from Central Atlantic University. He lists TEN of the organizations and a paragraph or two on each in his Linked-in bio.

Here's the list of bodies in Dr. Damra's organization :

    Academic Institute for Special Needs
American Institute of Healthcare and Hospitals Management
Global Council for Law, Arbitration and Human Rights
    American Institute of Professional Studies
    International Academy for Homeland Security
    U.S. Industrial Accreditation
    World Sports Federation
International Academy of Arts, Media and Creativity
    Southwestern Accreditation Council
Global Institute of Tourism and Hospitality

That didn't faze Dr. Richard Crews and "Prince" Lazarus Long, who floated (as it were) the idea of Delphi University, ostensibly located on a seamount they called "New Utopia", under water most of the time, near the Grand Caymans.

Lazarus Long is the name of a character who appears in a bunch f novels by Robert A. Heinlein. A coincidence?

Yes, with a Harvard MD. Creative guy, actually.

Crews was on my doctoral committee at Union as it was originally constructed. When I returned to finish he'd retired, so I replaced him with the now-president of Bellevue University.

Crews, for the uninitiated, was the co-founder of Columbia Pacific University, a truly pioneering nontraditional (and unaccredited) school in California in the 1970s and '80s. But when California dumped its 3-tier system in 1989, CPU started tangling with the state and never really got untangled. My hypothesis: CPU was a big target, and was offering degrees in just about anything a student could come up with. (This also got Union in trouble in Ohio.) Thus, unlike CCU and its few offerings, CPU didn't do a good enough job with quality control. But I wouldn't rule out money, politics, and CPU-based arrogance as factors in their demise.

Les Carr tried to keep it alive under a new moniker in a new state, but by then the traditional (read: accredited) schools were catching up and filling the void those unaccredited schools (some of which, like Walden, Sarasota, and Saybrook, eventually became accredited themselves) addressed. The argument in favor of taking a degree from an unaccredited school faded away, too.

I believed that, too - for some years. Then I found Dr. Damra, (Post 44). He holds a Central Atlantic U. DBA - and he's chief exec. of an organization with no less than TEN impressively-named bodies in its portfolio.
At 73, once again I have to revise my thinking - almost daily, it seems.

I'm not saying some people don't find such things useful. The diploma mill trade is fundamentally based on that little fact.

Nope. The guy was born Howard Turney, but changed it because his views matched those of the fictional character: New Utopia - MicroWiki - Wikia

No one would consider the Caribbean to be in the Central Atlantic, though. Maybe Bermuda, Cape Verde, or St. Helena, or something?

The late Dr. Crews was a psychiatrist (MD: Harvard), with the US Army for many years. Around the time he was dealing with "New Utopia," he also became a homeopathic physician. As Jack Benny used to say, "Hmmmmmmmmmmmm."
