Do you make Jew jokes too?

Do you mean like the one about the Germans having a contest on how many Jews you can fit into a Volkswagen? A guy drove up who appeared to be alone, but he ended up winning the contest - he had 47 Jews stuffed into the ashtray.

Or the one about Hitler showing up at Himmler's house by surprise? "Adolf!" said Himmler, "If I knew you were coming I would have baked a kike!"

If you wonder whether I'm allowed to tell those, just look at my last name. And, like Greg, I also tell Mormon jokes. Because they're funny. And, as they said in My Favorite Year, you should never mess with funny. Do a Google search on "Mormon jokes" for a dandy selection. Or just go directly to https://www.exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,629380,629380.

As the great philosopher Robin Williams once said, "Joke 'em if they can't take a fuck."

For the ultimate Mormon joke, watch the musical The Book of Mormon here:

The Jewish and Mormon peoples have a history of suffering that is shameful to the entire human race! These jokes are shocking and are in very poor taste! I'm done with Degreeinfo. I though it had some good tips on education but have discovered it's basically a nasty place! Adios!

Oh, puh-leeze . . . Give me a break, copper. Let’s address two things before we get to your whining.

First, the article that you cited above, https://www.jta.org/1928/02/21/archive/in-utah-mormons-call-themselves-jews-and-jews-are-considered-gentiles, is a farce – in fact, it’s not even bylined (meaning that the author is anonymous). And is written by an ignoramus.

First, the Mormons are not considered Christian by many Christians. Their wiki, for example, cites https://carm.org/mormonism/is-mormonism-christian to document this notion, and any Christian course on the cults will generally cover Mormonism as a cult along with Jehovah’s Witnesses, Christian Science, and Krishna Consciousness, among others. I am not stating a personal position here, merely noting that for a presumably non-Mormon or non-Christian to label Mormonism as Christian is naïve and uninformed.

Therefore, when the article you cited states, “Salt Lake City is the headquarters of the evangelical Christian denomination–the unique Christian sect in America known as the Mormons,” that shows pure ignorance since the argument that Mormonism is a cult is generally put forth by evangelical Christians.

By the way, the musical The Book of Mormon, which is not only offensive but highly profane and sacrilegious, was so successful with Mormons that its Salt Lake City engagement sold out, and even the LDS Church got in on the act by advertising in the show's Playbill and sending out missionaries to the BOM performances to spread a positive message (as opposed to protect). That, I submit, is style. And, FWIW, most Mormons who saw the show loved it. Because, as I said, you don't mess with funny.

Moreover. Your cited article states, “Polygamy was dropped in the ’90’s, and if anybody in the church attempted it today he would be set upon by church leaders without mercy, as far as immediate excommunication has any terrors. This is because the church undertook to abandon polygamy after the U. S. Supreme Court declared it unconstitutional, and not because of any retraction of faith.”

When I read an article that cites “the 90’s,” its first citation of a date, I think of 1990. Polygamy was, in fact, declared verboten by the LDS church in 1890, not 1990. And it had nothing to do with the Supreme Court case, which was decided much earlier – the ruling in Reynolds v. United States was handed down in 1872. Historically, in fact, the Mormons turned against plural marriage because Utah would have been denied statehood if they had not done so. Even then, some Fundie Mormon sects continue to practice polygamy today without retribution, although the mainstream LDS church no longer endorses it.

In other words, copper, get your facts straight – not only in what you purport, but also what you cite.

Now, to your whining. You haven’t told us whether you happen to be Jewish or Mormon. Not that it matters. Several DI members I can think of are Jewish (including me), and I am aware of one guy I consider a prominent Mormon who has been a DI member for many years and is the dean of online studies at a fairly reputable university (even though it’s a for-profit).

Let’s look again at your statement: “The Jewish and Mormon peoples have a history of suffering that is shameful to the entire human race! These jokes are shocking and are in very poor taste! I'm done with Degreeinfo. I though it had some good tips on education but have discovered it's basically a nasty place! Adios!”

I put that in the same context that I put civil rights: I never “suffered” from 400 years of oppression. On the other hand, I never caused 400 years of oppression. And, as I said earlier, funny is funny, even though some people might find it offensive.

And here on DI, nothing is shocking per se. We exist for two reasons: first, to inform people of educational opportunities and options in the non-traditional sector, and second, to expose fraudulent so-called schools and degree/diploma mills that intrinsically operate in “poor taste.” And sometimes we shock in doing so, even to the point that some of have been sued for doing so.

So, with all due respect and affection, you may take your “history of suffering,” in which you are obviously wallowing, and schtufen son tuchus (look it up).

Want the ultimate Jewish joke? Again written by a Jew, it’s from The Producers,” originally done as a 1968 non-musical film and reconstituted as a Broadway musical in 2001 that was again filmed in 2005. First, the 2005 film version of the musical:

And, because it was so good, the 1968 film version:

Keep in mind that in 1968, when the original film came out, we were less than 25 years off of the Holocaust, and many Holocaust survivors were still alive. The film was one of the ballsiest satires ever produced, and unless you want to trash Mel Brooks, I suggest you get off your high moral horse.

FWIW, copper, I hope you’ll get some brass on your huzzungas and stick around for what you call our “good tips on education.” Even though you have made some sloppy statements in the past, you have contributed to those tips and are a valued member of this community.

I was brought up in the Mormon church. I verify the accuracy of Steve's statements. Although hasten to add that Mormons generally hate it and consider it incorrect when they are not considered christian. My family also dabbled in poly cults. They followed one crazy fellow for over half dozen years and let him park one wife's trailer on our farm for a year. My oldest brother had multiple wives and was in the Allred cultist group for many years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apostolic_United_Brethren

In the interest of full disclosure, I escaped the Mormon cult myself long ago and no longer have to deal with ward teachers monthly visits to my home.

All churches are corporations organized and ran by men and women and are therefore imperfect. Yeshua Ha Mashiach (Jesus The Christ) preached and reaffirmed that the greatest commandments are to love G-d with all your heart, soul and mind and to love your neighbor as yourself.

My personal opinion is, the living of a religion is more important than the membership of one and loving G-d and your neighbor certainly does not require membership in any organization! Hateful and distasteful jokes towards groups of people are unnecessary and unwanted. Using the "F" word is unacceptable and offensive! However, know that I love and forgive you!

As far as BYU online courses go, looks like it is accredited and may be of some utility to a non-traditional learner. All I know about BYU is that the football team sucks eggs! Now those are real fighting words!
