I was researching Masters level business degrees, and I was looking for programs that offer not only a high amount of grad transfer credits, but also a portion of the degree to be "elective" based. There are many Liberal Arts programs like this (Excelsior, Amberton, etc.) but I haven't found many buisiness ones like this.

    My research shows:
Tarleton State University - MBA - Can transfer up to 12 units, 15 units of Program are "Elective"
Thomas Edison State College - Master of Management - Can transfer up to 12 units in, 12 units of Program are "Elective"

What other programs like this should I be evaluating?

I'm glad you brought this up. I've been contemplating transferring credits into a program myself. I understand Amberton U will also accept 12 units. The best I've heard of on the DETC side is 18 units.

From a value standpoint, it may be difficult to find enough difference in tuition costs to make a transfer worthwhile. Let's say College A offers its MBA at $300 per credit, and College B offers theirs at $343 per credit. At that point, is it really worth the trouble of having to manage your coursework so it aligns with the target program?

In an ideal situation, you could attend a low-cost DETC school such as AJU ($95 per credit during promotions) and transfer a bunch of credit into an RA program afterward to lower the cost. Problem with that idea is that RA institutions are notoriously picky about transfer credit, and are usually even more so with Master's programs (maybe TESC would budge?).

If you find a way to make this work, I'd be thrilled to hear about it.

Thanks for the reply Pete. When people ask about Grad School Transfers, the good folks of this board always bring up Excelsior (15), APUS (15), TESC (12). I did some digging and research shows that the RA schools listed below have been known take more than normal (6) grad transfer credits into certain programs. Would love to add more RA grad schools to this list.

    Excelsior College
    Thomas Edison
    Amberton
    Fort Hays State U.
    Salve Regina
    Duquesne
    Troy University
    Tarleton State
    Mountain State University
    APUS
    Texas A&M Commerce

Looks to me like the HETA list might be useful here. I didn't know until I did a bit of digging on this forum the other day that some well-known colleges are on it, as well as inexpensive NA schools like AJU.

I'm going to divert the thread a little by suggesting folks could possibly take Master's courses at a HETA NA school and then transfer them on to more known schools on the HETA list. I need to do some research as to what kinds of transfers HETA governs, though (coursework, degrees, grades, etc.).

HETA doesn't govern any transfers. That an institution is a member of HETA merely means that it won't solely use the fact that a school is NA to decide whether to accept credits. HETA members are under no obligation to accept credits from other HETA members.

For the really ambitious, it looks like Amberton will also allow credit by examination for three courses. If you can transfer in four classes, and finish three by exam, that might speed up the program quite a bit. . .

Credit by Examination at Amberton for the Graduate program? Can someone provide additional details on this? I didn't see it on the website, only for undergrad.
