Bush Lays Off Congress; will Outsource Lawmaking to India
    By Jay Slupesky
Washington - Citing the growing cost of running the Federal government and the need to cut costs in order to reduce the budget deficit, President Bush announced today that he was laying off all 535 members of Congress and transferring lawmaking operations to a legislative support center in Bangalore, India. "Hey, outsourcing is the way to go these days," said Bush at an impromptu news conference where he announced the decision, adding, "the American people want to see less government waste. Since every one of those ex-Congressmen had a salary of $150,000, this move will cut our costs by over $80 million per year, and that's not even counting what we'll save on health insurance and retirement plans." Sources indicate that the Indian replacements will be paid approximately $250 per month.

The outcry from the newly laid-off Senators and Representatives was swift. Ex-California Senator Diane Feinstein said, "This is absolutely outrageous. How can a bunch of replacements over in India run Congress? What do they know about filibusters and committee hearings?" As she was being escorted out of the Hart Senate Office Building by U.S. Capitol Police officers, Feinstein complained that the newly-terminated lawmakers were only given ten minutes to clean out their desks and leave the building.

"I think it's a great idea," said Vice President Dick Cheney, speaking from a secure undisclosed location. "The American people were fed up with that expensive do-nothing Congress which didn't always give the President everything he asked for. Our new Indian replacements will be much cooperative to the President, which is what we all want." Asked whether the outsourcing may be unconstitutional, Cheney noted, "That's up to the Supreme Court to decide, but as you know, they usually see things our way."

The new members of Congress seem thrilled with the attention they are receiving. Speaking from the offices of All-India Legislative Support Centre Ltd. in Bangalore, new Mississippi Senator Ramchandra Shekar Gupta told reporters, "The Indian people are very hard working and we will do our best as U.S. Congressmen and Congresswomen. And we are going to have some fun too. Just think: we have $2 trillion of the American taxpayers' money to spend!"

    On that note:
If the government fired 50% of all public servants, the same amount of work would get accomplished each day. You may think I'm kidding but I've seen it all. I work as a consultant under contract for the federal government.
How many are playing games on their PC in stead of working?
How many call in sick on a regular basis (then go shopping or visit friends)?
How many do very little or no work without any accountability (including management)?
How many were hired through political appointment or misrepresentation on their resumes (fake degrees)?
How many take 15 minute coffee and smoke breaks ever half hour?
How many government employees steal from their place of employment (disks, stationery, cash, artifacts, etc).
Why do you think your taxes are so high???

    Your right Roy.

All you have to do is look at the road crews for an example. 15 people standing around watching 1 person use a shovel. How is that for efficiency? :D

I agree 100%. I worked for the state of Illinois for 9 years and saw it all first hand. If the American people new exactly what went on in government office buildings each day, they would all revolt.
After wasting 9 years of my life, I finally quit because I couldn't take it any longer. There was nothing for me to do on a daily basis. I could take an all day coffee break, play on the computer, put my feet on my desk and go to sleep, and no one would know any different.
I looked at some of the people who had been there 30 years and they were all like zombies. I often wondered how they were able to function as adults. The place was like welfare for the "connected".
The only problem with firing half of them is that they would all collect public aid because they couldn't hold down a real job.

It is true that there is much waste in the civil service. It is also true that there is much waste in the benefits paid to hypocritical former politicians such as the former golf pro from North Bay.
You will no doubt be familiar with the details of the following excerpt from the Toronto Star, which explains the exploits of one Mikey Harris, formerly of Queen's Park, who preached a big game about restraint, but who seems to be totally clueless when it comes to practicising it himself:

    "Harris bills taxpayers $45,000
Expenses include flights to North Bay Time to cut off allowance, NDP says

    ROBERT BENZIE
    QUEEN'S PARK BUREAU

Sixteen months after leaving office, former Conservative premier Mike Harris is still billing taxpayers for weekend flights to North Bay, newspaper subscriptions and snacks, the NDP has revealed.

"My watch says it's time to cut off Mike Harris' allowance," NDP House Leader Peter Kormos said yesterday.

Citing documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, Kormos disclosed Harris has billed taxpayers almost $45,000 through the children's charity, Ontario's Promise."

So much for Mikey's "Common Psychosis" Revolution, don't you think?

Each member of congress has around 10 staffers so savings would be more like $300,000,000 per year
