This cop showed a hell of a lot of restraint before shooting a guy coming at him with a machete. An example which illustrates that most cops are intelligent and use restraint when dealing with even highly combative individuals. Here is a link to the article but you have to register.

After reading this article, I wrote a letter to Sheriff Laurie Smith telling her that she ought to be proud to have this caliper deputy representing her.

Indeed, it seems like he did his best not to let things come to that.

No relation that I know of, but the way I spell my last name is fairly uncommon, so there might be a distant connection.

My father used to travel quite a bit on business, and would always look up the name Tait in the local phonebook, and even in New York City & Chicago, there were always only a handful.

I have to say that Tait showed a lot more restraint than this Tait might have in the same situation!

Well, my opinion on in text moerator editing is that

NON-MODERATOR EDIT: Nobody ever reads what this guy writes anyway, so we might as well save some band width by removing most of it now. And by the way, how about them White Sox.

    (Rude noise.)

I think that the constant b&m about moderators ought to stop.

I've criticised Gregg when I thought that it was justified, so it's only fair that I defend him when the need arises.

Posting how to beat password protection on another site isn't a good idea, in my opinion. I don't have any problem with a moderator deleting it.

In the past I've made posts about this or that degree mill that included phone numbers, only to return to the post later and discover that the phone numbers had been replaced with X's, without explanation. (For some reason mill url's are allowed to remain, which never made much sense to me.)

In this instance I think that Gregg acted properly. And doing it in his accustomed colorful manner let everyone know precisely where the changes had been made and why. I like that. I think that whenever a moderator changes the text of a post, the changes should be clearly identified as new text and the reasons for the changes explained. That way if somebody quotes the post in the future, the new wording won't be attributed to the post's original author.

Let me add a suggestion to Gregg. While your explanation was fine in my opinion, you might want to place them at the bottom so as not to break a post's continuity.
