Vancouver is huge with terrible traffic. Just to set the record straight.

Saudi Arabia. An era where Arabs were trading African slaves like livestocks. Slaves were caught by their brainwashed followers in Africa and sold to Arabs who then castrate the men, rape the Women and use the kids for prostitution or child labour. This went on for 1300 years They gift African slaves to their kids on birthdays to run errands for the rest of their lives, Saudi Arabia ended slavery in 1964
Compared to the infamous trans-Atlantic slave trade, Arabs traded more blacks as slaves than Europeans
Between 8-17 million Africans were bought by Arab slave traders and reportedly an even greater number died en route.,
The Arab slave trade also lasted longer. They irony is not lost on me, why many Africans still go this place on pilgrimage to worship the God of their enslavers.
Why no much talk about the trans saharan slave trade?

Because while the Trans-Saharan slave trade (aka Arab slave trade) is far older than the Trans-Atlantic slave trade, the majority of the enslaved under the Arab slave trade did not end up in the United States. In this country when we say "black history" we mean black American history.

And, just for the record, there was some overlap between the Arab slave trade operating in East Africa and the Indian Ocean and the Trans-Atlantic slave trade, because ships from the Trans-Atlantic slave trade went as far as South Africa and up into the Swahili Coast to procure slaves. There are quite a few black Americans with ethnicity from countries like Madagascar, Mozambique, and Kenya for example. I learned about this overlap when my DNA testing showed results for Kenya (5%) and Sudan (trace amounts). I was gobsmacked and went into research mode and that's when I discovered the untold truth about the Trans-Atlantic slave trade.

I think the trans Saharan slave trade should be thought in the US schools because it provides a global perspective. US is not on another planet.
Appears to serve US haters, from inside and outside to portray US horribly, while the trade was interconnected.
Yes, a lot happened, and a lot was dome to repair and still needs to be done, but it should not be used against the US and promote the hate-rage and divisions of our country.
When we see US solders, policeman, actors, doctors, billionaires, judges etc., we see how much progress was done.
Minorities proudly and many heroic are the fabric of our society.
What needs to be celebrated is the common love to the country and work toward the future, without forgetting the past and not politisize it for the wrong reasons.

How interesting, INTJ! Did you expect to see mostly West Africa in your background?

I did like the very Canadian line about the road; "It's broad and paved and up to code!"

Yes. Also the British Isles, specifically Scotland (I'm a Stewart/Stuart descendant through slave rape), and I did. But, I was really surprised at what else showed up. I also saw some intriguing results when I ran my raw results through the admixture calculators on GEDmatch.

It should be taught in world history. I had a world geography teacher who was Republican and kept promoting George W. Bush in class. He refused to teach anything other than European geography. He said it was the most important to U.S. history and most Americans, including Black Americans, have European ancestry.

I ended up having to educate myself in that area.

I'm not entirely sure the Sahara slave trade has ended even yet.

I've heard of some slaves being bought in North Africa. In Arab countries, they bring in guest workers from Africa for domestic labor, but some end up being slaves who aren't allowed to leave, are beaten, and the women are frequently raped.

I didn't have any East African in my DNA results. My results were typical. Mostly West African, some Central African, and some British/Scottish/Welsh. One test picked up a small amount of Native American/East Asian.

Oops. To clarify, various companies break down ethnicities differently. One popular company has a British/Irish category. Another popular company separates out English, Scottish, Welsh, and Irish.

Public schools have to adhere to a curriculum, the freedom to deviate from it is very limited. In order for this type of teacher to do what you described will require the administrators to turn a blind eye to such practices.
I know where my son is teaching, such practices would lead to teachers disciplinary action.
My DNA test was that of a typical Ashkenazi Jew, mixed with Hispanic - Sephardi Jew and even some Persian and Italian(Mediterranean) DNA-go figure.

If the administration knows what's going on. None of the students complained because he was an easy, fun teacher. He would just ramble about random, off topic stuff half the time, so we didn't have to do a lot of work. Looking back with adult eyes, he was a terrible, lazy teacher.
