Maybe it is a new trend to have multiple forms of national accreditation. It could be that multiple forms of accreditation embraces the concept that there is multiple systems of quality control. Presumably, they require slightly different checking/reporting that may cover more ground than a single accreditor, including RA. I would think that the costs was be prohibitive, but there must be a reason.
I don't know if the university has program accreditation or not. I would have thought it might be better to have program accreditation and whole of university accreditation rather than two of the latter. It seems to concentrate in the business area so I would think that some sort of program accreditation would have been better. I am a long way from expert in these matters and I would be interested in hearing why two forms of national accreditation.

I did not think that the pricing was over the top, albeit not the cheapest either.

Great idea, but I don't think either of the best-known US business program accreditors, AACSB and ACBSP, accredits programs at NA schools. For US schools - RA only, AFAIK, although what they do in Switzerland is something else altogether!

I was interested to note that California Miramar's tuition pretty well doubled overnight - the day it was accredited by DETC. IIRC, the undergrad freight went from about $80 a credit, pre-accreditation, to $155 or so, in one swell foop.

I'm not suggesting $155 (or whatever it is today) is excessive, either. I've read/heard good reports of the school. Just remarking on the near-100% nature of the one-time increase.

At the beginning of this thread Rich said "This isn't worth the bother for several reasons." And now, after 62 posts, 16 of them are from Rich. Got to love Rich.

Should be, but it ain't. Not yet! This PWU - complete mill, no apparent connection to California Miramar - is still running here:

    Home

Dunno how "Pacific" it is any more, since the "school" has moved from California to Colorado! This one deals mostly overseas and may have "campuses" and "representatives" abroad, according to its spiel. A lot of its dealings consist of selling degrees to Africans.

Here's an African doctoral um..recipient, - I can hardly call a PWU student a "grad" - getting his PWU degree in Jan 2013.

Mr. Ikechukwu get doctorate Degree from Pacific Western University Of Denver State of Colorado USA | The Red Parrot

PS - Just noticed - the PWU "Doctorate" being conferred is honorary.

BTW - as usual for such occasions, lots of impressive funny hats and robes at the recent PWU-do pictured above, but no curtain rods I could see. Perhaps they're not an academic tradition in that part of Africa... or they don't have a Wal-Mart or Target in the area...

The Pacific-12 Conference -- one of the best-known college athletic leagues in the US -- admitted the University of Colorado in 2010.

But perhaps the standards for accuracy in NCAA conference names aren't too high. After all, the Big 12 Conference has 10 members, and the Big 10 Conference has 12 members (soon to be 14).

And they appear to specialize in scamming Nigerians -- a nice turnabout!

OK - this is as far off-topic as I go.

For that matter, neither Arizona nor Arizona State seem very "Pacific."

What? No curtain rods? What is happening to the academy?

Wow. I haven't seen marquees on a web page since 1999. All they need is an iframe and the thing would probably create a temporal paradox.

I think that iframes are still used fairly frequently, just in a less jarring and obvious way these days.
