Hi, I will expain my situation then get to my question. I am a graduate from a 2 year associates degree program in CIS. I have no experience in the IT industry, or have no certifications. My age is 23.

My question is, based on this info, would a CIS program like UMUC, UMASS-Lowell, City U, Athabasca etc., with a set ciriculum and online classes would be better suited for someone like me with no industry or life experience. I compare this to the Excelsior College CIS degree, which as far as I can see, is more geared towards a professional in the IT field with many years experience, plenty of college credit, and certifications. Plus, regarding the CLEPP and Dantes exams, I have heard that you would probably need a lot of life experience to do well on them (or have a better chance to do well). I would appreciate anyones opinion.

    Thanks in Advance,

It really depends on what you would prefer. I would look for a school that will allow you to apply most or all of the courses that you took for your associates degree and will best prepare you for whatever your goal is (work or grad school).

As far as the difficulty of the CLEP and DANTES tests, I really think that it just depends upon your aptitude and the particular exam. It seems that some are probably fairly easy for most people, while some are very difficult. If you take the right exams and play to your strengths then you could probably pick up some credits fairly easily and inexpensively (relative to taking actual courses), but the problem might be finding exams that you could apply toward a degree that you want. If nothing else you can use exams to fill in if you need any free elective credit.
