I am about 30 credits away from degree in Communications. I haven't gone to school in several years and want to switch gears. I would like to become a Pastor at some point. So I'm looking for degree options as well as eventual seminary options. I need to do this cheaply and for my degrees to be dextrous! I consider myself to be a non-denominational Christian so I'm not aiming for any specific church. If I went with something like SATS (South African Theological Seminary)... would my resume be tossed? Or is it somewhat well regarded? I'm looking for real, practical advice on the matter. To you Pastors out there... if you were me and wanted a flexible degree that would allow you kind of pick your church to some degree... which way would you go?
Why not Liberty University? It has online pastoral/ministry degree programs from the undergrad all the way through the doctorate: Online Education with an Online Christian University | Liberty University Online
nothing wrong with Liberty... but I'm looking to do this as cost effictively as possible. I show Liberty to be 350-400 per credit hour... I need to bring the cost down..
Try HSBC Holiness Online Bible Degree - ADE Online Degree Program. They are NA (through ABHE) and provide quality courses at a very reasonable price.
If you want to be a pastor, many of the church will look for the M.Div. Luther Rice is a decent school for a relatively cost effective M.Div.
Look at Liberty University Online's Seminary Block Rate. Under the Seminary Block Rate plan, tuition to enroll in 9 to 15 semester hours per term is a 'flat' $2,550 ($2,250 for military students). Take that maximum 15 sh course load and this would represent tuition of $170 per semester hour – for self-funded graduate courses from an accredited private college, this is pretty great. The Block Rate is available for most but not all Seminary programs, current exclusions are the DMin, PhD in Theology and Apologetics, and MA in Ethnomusicology. And the Block Rate is only for programs from its Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary academic unit, not from other academic units of Liberty University.
