    Hello

Does Oz have similar accreditation issues as in the US and will a foreign degree from an unaccredited University be frowned upon?

    Any advice

You may find a list all accredited Oz uni's at:

    http://www.avcc.edu.au/australias_unis/individual_unis/

and accredidation information from the same site.

As far as unaccredidation issues, I cannot give anything other than my ubsubstantiated opinion as an Oz student, being that it will very likely be frowned upon. My experience in the system, limited as it may be, causes me to picture the frown on the admissions staff as they wonder why I am wasting their time with such questions - accredidation being taken very seriously. However, there is very likely someone on this board who will have more information on this, and I would like to hear what they have to say as well.

    Regards,

    Bozzy,

No, Oz does not have the same issues. The universities are government funded and are part of a government quality control mechanism (as is the case in the UK and Canada).

As long as you pursue a degree from one of the public universities (which most/all are), you do not have to worry about accreditation.

A degree from an Australian public university would serve you fine.

    Ken,

A combination from this thread and the other about PhD's: you mentioned many Australian degrees - are they the equivalent to an RA degree in the U.S.? A better question: are they accepted as equal? That would open up many possibilities for me...

    Yes,

Degrees from public Australian universities are equivalent and accepted as equal.

Believe it or not, I know some US Ivy league types who have completed study-terms in Australia to broaden their experience / degrees.

A poster on this board positioned the quality of Oz degrees as being simliar to Canada... between the UK on the high-end and the US on the low.

However, you should never accept advice from DegreeInfo... too much trash, so you should definetly do your own research (you will confirm my statement, though).

There are 37 public universities in Australia and, as far as I know, Bond University ( http://www.bond.edu.au ) is the only private university in Australia. Bond University has been established as the university in accordance with the State of Queensland's Bond University Act.

    Plus

    Australian Catholic University
    [now part Government funded]

    Charles Sturt University
[part of the group owned by Study Group International and Government funded for local students]

The all rank equally, but some are more equal than others :))

As with anywhere, it depends of what you are studying, who is in the faculty [and they constantly shift from Uni to Uni here] and for research degrees, who 'reads' your dissertation [masters] or thesis [doctorate]
