I'm thinking about taking some computer courses online from Athabasca. AU School of Computing and Information Systems - Course Samples specifically Java for Programmers - Computer Science (COMP) 308 Athabasca University: Course Syllabus, Computer Science 308 Introduction to Database Management - Computer Science (COMP) 378 Athabasca University: Course Syllabus, Computer Science 378 and possibly Network Programming in Java - Computer Science (COMP) 348 Athabasca University: Course Syllabus, Computer Science 348 does anyone have experience with these courses or with Athabasca ? how does Athabasca conduct final exams ? So for example: I see for the database course there are 3 exercises, one project and a final exam. Would the exam be 1) sit down at a computer and construct a data model with ERwin 2) answer multiple choice questions 3) answer essay questions such as 'discusses the basic concepts of data warehousing and describes different architectures used for data warehousing systems' I'm not asking for actual questions that appear on the exam. I'm asking what type of questions are on the exam. What is the format of the exam?
I have not - but Athabasca enjoys a very good reputation. Perhaps you can contact them to find out the answers and then post those?
Exam layouts for some AU computer courses Hi James, I was hoping to get this to you sooner but the Degree Info authentication email kept getting stuck in my spam filter so I couldn't reply to your question. You were interested in the format of the exams for COMP308/348/378. Without giving too much away they are: Comp 308 - is basically short answer, "what is?" type questions and some "explain this principle" COMP348 - some fill in the blanks, some explain and describe short answer and some rewrite the program COMP378 - some multiple choice, some short answer, some identify, define and draw questions. The exams would be administered in an invigilated environment such as a local college or university. I hope that helps.
I took a course or two from Athabasca ... its been a couple years so I don't remember off the top of my head which ones (Java was one of them). But the courses were very informative and I enjoyed the experience. The instructors were also very helpful. Brandon
