Does anyone have information about ADU? Their website says that they have both campus and DL free computer science education. They indicate that they are financed independently. They don't issue degrees. Campus students need a degree before admission. They have few requirements for DL students. Free computer science education sounds interesting. But since it does not have any academic standing, can it help a career? http://www.aduni.org All the best, Lee
This is "Ars Digita University," founded by Philip Greenspun -- http://philip.greenspun.com/ Looks like some interesting, challenging courses -- but not likely to translate into immediate career benefits, as they note themselves: "But if you just want to make some money, there are many easier ways than studying computer science. For example, a good Oracle database administrator can always find a job and works about half as many hours as a good programmer." http://aduni.org/admissions/ ------------------ Kristin Evenson Hirst DistanceLearn.About.com [email protected]
Philip Greenspun is almost a legend in the IT field... he's been involved in a lot of early Internet stuff for years, and his company, arsdigita.com, offers a collection of MIT brains and software to companies. Arsdigita also offers a bunch of free tools, one of which monitors this server 24 hours a day and lets someone know if it goes down. So... I have no doubt that Philip Greenspun has honest and ethical intentions, but I doubt that the coursework he offers will be useful in an academic sense, nor do I think it's intended to be used that way.
