That's funny stuff and as a former F-15 avionics troop, I can attest to the truth behind that video.

I apologize for my manners. It irks me when its always the Army and Marines that get shafted! You Air Force folks have it made!

I have over 25 years flying with these guys. They are good people just a little out of touch with reality.

    Okay, now we're communicating!

Yep, I agree. The quality of life and the nature of the missions people face in the Air Force is really good. Better bases, better housing, fewer deployments, steadier jobs, less-frequent assignments, etc. All true. Guilty as charged. But....

While officer promotions are controlled across the services by DOPMA, they're still based on the services' needs. So, officers will make rank at approximately the same points regardless of service, but lower proportions are promoted in the Air Force because of retention. There are, simply put, fewer slots to fill and, thus, fewer officers promoted at each point.

On the enlisted side this is really dramatic, but has another element added. Enlisted members rise through the ranks most quickly in the Army and Marine Corps, followed by the Navy. The Air Force is the slowest by far. Because of this, they retire at lower grades, too.

Which is better? Like almost all things, depends on your point of view. But don't think for a minute that Air Force people (generally) understand and appreciate their brethren, and are jealous of their career opportunities. This as they appreciate the good things about the Air Force, too.

  8. I'm not going back all the way to 1775 :speechless:. However, in the bigger scheme of things 1940 isn't that long. Correct me if I'm wrong, but when it was first started it didn't cover the entire (up to $250 credit hour) tuition like today's does. I believe it covered a percentage. If that's true then the TA that we know of today truly is such a long standing tradition. Plus the Post 9/11 GI Bill wasn't even a thought then. Yes, it sucks that a person would have to use the GI Bill while still serving...but that's what it is for. It's for education. You right though, it's up to the members to decide what it means to them. It really works out two fold for the government. They are recruiting less and cutting troop numbers. Now they can accomplish both and cut out a benefit. In the "corporate" world that's a no brainer.

I thought this was a great post...........until I realized you are being completely serious. Oh well, agree to disagree.

What is it with the ad hominems on this board lately? Did I say something to you or about you personally?

My post was not an ad hominem as I did not speak against you directly or indirectly. As you know, an ad hominem is an attack on the character of a person presenting an argument rather than on the merits of the argument itself. At no point did I make any sort of statement or implication about my impressions of your character in my post. I was referring to your points to which I personnally disagree with and find no merit in whatsoever.

Sorry, but disagreeing with you is not an attack. Nothing more, nothing personal, and have a nice day.

This is a hair-splitting effort to find a difference between "you're stupid" and "what you say is stupid." Okay.

What you posted was a vapid, stupid, knee-jerk reaction utterly void of perspective, content, or contribution. However, you're a nice person.

Have a nice day, indeed!

(I would suggest to the Mods that this is how flame wars start and, indeed, this person engaged in a mere ad hominem lacking any other purpose or contribution.)

So let me get this straight, anyone who disasgrees with you is "vapid, stupid, and utterly void of perspective"?

    Thanks Pot.

Good day to you Sir, Kettle.

Gosh, no! I would never say that about you. I was saying it about your post. After all, you made that distinction, right?

You're a wonderful person, certainly. And I'm certain as well that the point has been made. Even though your follow-up doesn't reflect it, I'm sure you're brilliant. I just wish we could have enjoyed some of it in a critical response. But alas....

Rich, I am glad I could help you get closer to 9000 posts. That is quite an accomplishment.

You are right about one thing in this thread, I am wonderful.

Seriously though, I did not intend for this to escalate into a flame war. I have a philosophical disagreement with your solution on tax and spend policies - that is all. I did not mean to insult you. I apologize that my tongue-n-cheek response to your post was inarticulate and did not rise to your standard of intellectual discourse on an internet discussion board.

Bush was a massive spender and increased the deficit, but Obama has increased the deficit more in 4 years than Bush did in 8.

Spending more, lots more turns you into Greece. Once there the only thing left is austerity cuts because there is no money left. Austerity did not cause Greece's problem. Spending did.

    Huh? That's nuts!

We need more private sector tax payers not government workers. We need people adding to the coffers not taking out.

When you tax companies they just pass it on to the public in the form of higher prices. If people don't like where they work they are free to leave.

Ah ... I knew socialism would enter the equation sooner or later.

The first statement I agree with. I think everyone and every source of income should be taxed at the same rate no matter what your income level.

We are not letting it sit idle. We are watching the government destroy it.
