Calling all soldiers on this net; calling all soldiers on this net. Do you read? Over. Prepare to copy, message follows:

Free computer-based training through SmartForce is back up for U.S. Army soldiers.

The course offerings include programs designed to prep soldiers for testing for Microsoft, Cisco, and Oracle certifications, as well as others. The training is now also tied in to the Army Training Requirements and Reporting System (ATTRS) to keep a record of training completed and to facilitate the issuance of training certificates. The training managers for each military occupational speciality (MOS) have also come up with lists of courses which they suggest soldiers in a particular MOS should complete.

In order for soldiers to access this training, they must have an Army Knowledge Online (AKO) account. The AKO home page is at http://www.us.army.mil

While at the homepage, you will see, along the right-hand side of the the page, a box entitled "Army Wide Announcements." At the bottom of the box is the following bullet:

"State-of-the Art Computer Based Training available for free to Army workforce"

Click on the "More Information" link and you will be taken to a document that explains what you need to do to get a SmartForce account through ATTRS.

The following article from Federal Computer Week also provides some additional information on the Army's partnership with SmartForce and what it means for soldiers.

Just so there's no confusion, let me clarify that this is an entirely separate program from Army University Access Online (eArmyu), and is open to all U.S. Army soldiers everywhere.
