    Hello there,

I am a PhD student at EGS, and I think it's been one of the best experiences of my life. They don't teach you about other people's thoughts there, rather, they teach you how to think. If that's something you would value, then go ahead and give it a try, but if you're concerned about accredition, I'm not sure if that would be the right choice for you, as I'm not sure if it's fully accredited in the US, but I don't care about that, honestly. I'm glad Wolfgang allowed me to be there :)

    Best of luck!
    Tina

OMG! It's amazing that, from out of nowhere two people should appear, anonymously, in support of this school. Also, they are both "one hit wonders." Plus, they offer such an array of factual information.

It's amazing that anyone even bothers to attend any other school.

is it amazing? i came upon this board via Google in a search for another site that had the phrase "European Graduate School" in it. that doesn't seem all the amazing to me. i had never heard of this board before, but the thread seemed to stretch back for many years so i thought it proper to chime in. what is this talk of "anonymously" and "one hit wonders"? this strange ad hominem seems out of place. my name is Dan. that is more than i know about you, "Kizmet."

    cheers.

oh, hey, hello to Tina! do i know you? (Iran?)

    Dan,

Kizmet is one of our moderators. Perhaps understanding the issues that we at degreeinfo face will help out a little in understanding the response you received.

One of the things that's important to the discussions here is that they be at face value; when a thread exists about a program and all of the sudden, two new posters appear, one right after another, and post a spirited defense of a program, having never been heard from before, our assumption (which, unfortunately, proves correct a surprising percentage of the time) is that the people posting have been asked by the school to post on it's behalf.

And, about 90% of the time when this happens, it's with questionable schools; ones without recognized accreditation, or with questionable faculty members, or a lot of complaints. So when people pop up out of nowhere and defend a school that appears at least somewhat questionable, our bullshit sensors immediately go off.

Since your post seems sincere, I'm willing to take it at face value. If you were asked to make the post by someone associated with EGS, it would be good to acknowledge that, just so eveyrthing stays on an even playing field.

    thanks, Chip

i certainly understand your point now that you clarify. nevertheless, the response of this moderator Kizmet (whomever s/he is) was not very helpful. thank you for your response, though, Chip!

to directly address your point: nope, i am not in cahoots with anyone in the leadership of EGS--or students for that matter. i hope that Tina posts back as i would love to know what she thinks of the current situation in Tehran (if she is the same Tina i know).

i've enjoyed reading many of the threads on this board. there are a lot of passionate people posting here (some non-moderators with thousands of posts!!).

    all the best.

May I ask where you got such information? How can Nova be millish when they have a main campus that been around since 1964 and offer degrees from the College of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) , College of Optometry, College of Osteopathic Medicine (DO's), College of Pharmacy (PharmD's), Law School (JD's), and Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.).

Come on now - get real

This was in my email the otherday. It was part of the ECE news letter

"Europaische Universitat Fur Interdisziplinare Studien (European University for Interdisciplinary Studies), a private institution established in 1994 in Leuk-Stadt and Saas-Fee, translates its name into English as European Graduate School [EGS]. On 20 June 2002, EGS was officially recognized by the Canton of Valais (also known as Kanton Wallis), a Canton that does not have a public university. EGS is not accredited by the authorities who have jurisdiction over tertiary education in Switzerland. Educational qualifications awarded by EGS are not accepted by the universities in Switzerland."

    I hope this helps.

    How to verify Swiss accreditation.

It is actually quite easy to verify whether or not a swiss university is fully accredited. (GAAP status)
The Rectors' Conference of Swiss Universities, one authority which has jurisdiction over tertiary education in Switzerland, has a list of all fully accredited Swiss universities on its website: http://www.crus.ch/information-programme/recognition-swiss-enic/recognised-or-accredited-swiss-higher-education-institutions.html?L=2
There are a few institutions in Switzerland with English as language of instruction and with recognized US accreditation. These institutions are treated like US universities with the same type of accreditation, which means that degrees from these schools are considered foreign degrees in Switzerland. However, there is also a special type of Swiss accreditation for these Swiss-American institutions. That accreditation is some kind of program accreditation, and these Swiss accredited degrees are, of course, treated like Swiss degrees. Until now, there is only one Swiss-American college with Swiss accredited degrees, Franklin College in Lugano. (http://www.fc.edu/)

Schools with cantonal recognition only are quite similar to state reconized US schools. There are huge differences between such schools in different Swiss cantons. Some, like EGS, are real but unaccredited schools, but others, like Freie Universität Teufen, clearly are diploma mills.

    An online alternative to EGS.

To the progenitor of the original question, based on later clarifying requests, I offer the following: The New School in NYC (East Village) has an 'online" and regionally accredited graduate degree in Media. I doubt it will meet your quest but it is accredited and does have excelent and current fcaulty. Its 'documentary certification', which can become part of your end dgree, is ranked ninth by Forbes. I detest rankings, even though I am a beneficiary of many statistically regulated benefits, but other than the Fielding Institute's collaboration with UCLA, I know only of USC's MSW and MPW, but the MPW is not available at a distance. Look uo the New School's Media online graduate Media program. :soapbox:
