True. But my point concerns the fact that even if the IBS redid their curriculum to conform with the ATS degree models, they still wouldn't be considered simply because of their faith tradition.

Two points in response to that:

First, my question is: If it is constitutionally impermissable for the federal government to recognize a Baptist or a Methodist accreditor, why does it suddenly become acceptable for them to recognize a specifically Christian accreditor?

I'm treating the differences between the different world religions as being *legally* (not necessarily theologically) analogous to the difference between Christian denominations.

Second, concerning IBS seeking regional accreditation. I suppose that they could try that.

Of course, of the nine GTU full members, three aren't RA themselves: American Baptist Divinity School, Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary, and Starr King School of Ministry. They are ATS though.

WASC doesn't seem to be very thrilled with accrediting extremely small schools these days. They only accredit a total of eleven schools with an enrollment of under 100 students. Only one of these has an enrollment of under 50.

The smallest is the latest accredited (2001), but the City of Hope's doctoral program (enrollment 33) is the outgrowth of a bio-medical research effort that has been around for decades, conducted by a large and very well funded medical center. Apart from this exception and one MFA program accredited in 1984, all of the nine other tiny schools were originally accredited in the seventies or before.

My argument is that if ATS provides an alternative pathway to federally recognized accreditation, a pathway that might be easier to follow for very small but academically sound schools that lack resources, then making that alternative pathway only available to Christians may raise constitutional establishment-clause issues.

I am with you Bill. Steve, did you really mean to compare RA to a Cadillac (a Lincoln maybe) but a Cadillac. I hope their mechanics have improved because at one point they were not well regarded. Cadillac is tryng to get away from the stodgy image (using the L.Zepplin song in the ads). At one point someone suggested Cadillac should change it's crest to include a pair of crossed white orthodpedic support shoes.

I remember my Pontiac Trans-Am with a 455. It ate Hemis until about 90 at which time all I saw were tail-lights. No top end.

My "Velle" didn't have that much top end either. Gears were too low. But off the line, whoaaa baby, here I go! I made TRACS!

The kerjunk-kerjunk of the cam etc would set off car alarms when I idled by. Boy I loved that car, course that was in my younger days. ... I was 58 then!

The 351 Cleveland in my 75 Ranchero did pretty well too. Probelms were that it ate gas and the engine was too pwerful for the light rear end (which was like a truck bed). I put a couple of cinderblocks in the back to give it added traction.

    Hi North

Um yes,and now back to DL.
And speaking of being speedy, I just finished my second ACCS paper for th 6033. The first "trounced" the eternal generation doctrine and the second "thrashed" Open Theism's view on Judas Iscariot. (well, I might be slightly optimistic about the efficacy of these short papers). The "Velle" may be gone, but I'm still going strong!

Congratulations! I think the odds of your finding Open Theists at ACCS are not to good so your trouncing will probably be well taken.

Keep up the juggling act (Dr. Dr. Bill)!

Yeah, but the first paper rejected the opining of the author of the Theology text whom I suppose represents a consensus of views. Ah well. No one is perfect, ie, my referent (no one) is the author of that text!?

Hmmm..., what is that old saying? "pride goeth before a , a..." before what now???????
