I asked them about it, and after they gave me confused looks before going back to watching Wizards of Waverly Place, I confirmed with my wife that they never received a notice about a reunion. As for the alumni fund, I graduated high school 28 years ago, and they still call me looking for a donation every year, but when the phone don't ring, we know it's Millard Fillmore Institute...they need to step-up their game!

On a serious note, their diplomas are safely tucked away in my gun safe, and once I think they're old enough to appreciate the humor, I'm going to have them professionally framed and give them to them.

Hopefully, they will both eventually earn diplomas from more.......prestigious schools. :)

New Charter is doing some interesting things.

Looks like they've jettisoned everything except their business programs, and now they're offering a "try and buy" option-- you can start taking coursework with them, and once you actually enroll they'll put your credits on record.

If I weren't otherwise busy this year, this looks intriguing.

I guess "interesting things" is subjective, but this is the complete opposite of what I would consider interesting. Also, their site is confusing. The main site only lists the AS, BS and MBA business degrees, however, the catalog lists these degrees along with the AS/BS/MS CJ and MPA degrees. The catalog states that it's valid from 3/12/12 through 12/31/12. Hmm...

Indeed, interest can be very subjective. I consider it interesting in that it may be the first "try before you buy" program out there, or at least the first I've seen. Technically speaking, it actually works out to a tuition deferral, because you'll have to shell out before they put your credits on record. On the surface, it looks like you could get started in the program without having to pay anything.

Other things that drew me in a bit: the site is overall tidier and more professional than it had been under the old name. I think their emphasis on the business degrees is very practical, but it is a little limiting. I keep hoping they'll offer more degrees, not fewer.

I would imagine they have to keep the other programs in their catalog at least until the last remaining students graduate. If they can reach a suitable teach-out arrangement (e.g. Columbia Southern), they could unload the programs by that date or sooner.

Also, their site is confusing. The main site only lists the AS, BS and MBA business degrees, however, the catalog lists these degrees along with the AS/BS/MS CJ and MPA degrees. The catalog states that it's valid from 3/12/12 through 12/31/12. Hmm...[/QUOTE]

I hate the name with a passion. I think they had a great name. I actually accidently ran into AJU's campus in Hoover, Alabama last year (office building I mean). They had a good thing going with the sponsored program and all. Now they sound like a cable company.

Yeah. Hopefully, they'll fix that soon, but not do a Trident-style three-name turnover in short succession.

    ^^^ I wouldn't count on it.

I had an experience with them not long ago where I sent a message to their admissions email regarding the possibility of taking some courses there. I waited for about 2 weeks and didn't get a response (though I had forgotten I sent a message until I began looking in my sent for folder for an unrelated message).

So, I sent a follow-up message and the counselor returned it telling me to look for the answers in the catalog and ask again if I had more questions. Nevermind the fact that I'd already searched the catalog and 90% of the answers weren't in there or were vague, hence the reason I sent the email in the first place. But the main issue is, he seemed to think his reply was an appropriate way to help a prospective student. Smh. It seems like they have more issues than just the awful name.

As a person with a degree from them I've never had a problem. You speak of some "He" when the only person who works in admission is a female, her name is Tammy.

Of course you wouldn't be implying that I'm making this up, because that charge is never presented when someone's beloved school isn't spoken of glowingly...

I speak of a "he" because I spoke to a "he". That is, unless Tim is also Tammy and vice versa. "He" also printed his name as "Tim" at the end of the email.

Here is the email address of Tim O'Connor from NCU admissions: [email protected]

Unless he has started in the last month there is only one person working in admissions..I'll check. I also don't care what you say as long as its a fact.

Well, he had to have started sometime because he's definitely working there and that's the guy who emailed me, assuming they aren't using pseudonyms.

And I wouldn't post about something if it didn't happen... I wouldn't see the point...

NCU might be a fine program, I have no idea one way or the other. But that dealing was a bit of a shocker and certainly a total turn-off for me. With the market so competitive and them still restructuring and trying to gain a foothold, they can't afford to make that kind of mistake too many times. Hopefully, for their sake, that was just an aberration.

At first I wasn't sure what you were talking about. But I think you're confusing my broken signature (Accused of BS by internet jackasses with no lives, daily.) with the body of the text. That signature was written about 5 or 6 years ago in regards to a general situation. I haven't posted much since I put it up so I didn't really pay attention to it still being there.

"Cone of silence"...awesome. Can we get a cone of shame? Oh and I really liked what I saw from AJU, the name change is a horrible choice. Did they pull this out of page 1 of the "generic and ambiguous university names book"? It sounds scamy and is instantly forgettable.

    Oh...and Hai Max, welcome back.

Andrew Jackson University becomes New Charter University? All we need is another NCU!

Yes, the new name sucks. Only three degree programs now? I'm less likely to enroll at a school with only three programs. It makes me feel like that's all they can pull off. There was nothing wrong with AJU, or the programs they offered, which included a very affordable communications degree. There aren't enough of those around.
