As many of you know, or don't know(It's been a while since I been on the forum) I was enrolled in the MBA program at Morehead State University. I attended from 2005-07 and managed to complete 24 credits. I was doing quite well until my wife and I seperated (and subsequently got divorced) or in other words life got in the way. I have been contemplating going back, in fact I know I would love to get back into the swing of things, I am just not sure if the MBA(there are other programs that interest me more) or Morehead is right for me. I just can't see my butt going back to Morehead and I know this makes little sense considering I am so close to the end. I will also mention that Morehead gives you 10 years to complete the program. Any advice would be appreciated (even if it I just need to get over myself).

I'm not qualified to give you advice, but I sure understand about life getting in the way. Good luck!

With 24 credits completed at Morehead, I'd finish it there and then look at other schools for a certificate program, etc. if you want a different focus.

Merely free advice: If you have [truly] lost interest in the Morehead State MBA program then … forget it and move on. However as has already been suggested; with 24-hours already completed as a factor, I’d recommend you carefully reassess your decision re completing the MBA.

I found the Moreheasd on-line MBA.

    Pro:
    • It is AACSB accredited (the ones I mentioned above are not)
    • You have completed two thirds of the MBA (24 out of 36 units). Only 4 courses to go.
    • It is shorter than the two I mentioned (36 vs. 39 or 48 units)
    • Join the 9% of people over age 25 who have a masters degree.

    Con:
    • It is fairly expensive at $456 per unit.

If you want an MBA then I'd suggest you finish at Morehead. If you want to pursue something very different then you should cut your losses and go for it.

I agree... looking at it from a business perspective, you should consider your previous investment in the 24 credits that you have as sunk costs. You can not sell them or get the time back, so don't allow them to have any influence on your decision. If you have no desire or need for an MBA, then move on...

I have a suggestion: why not finish the MBA with Morehead, keeping a slow pace (perhaps one course per term). This would allow you to look into other graduate progams, and possibly even begin one (if that is what you intend to do).

It's only four more classes. How bad can that be? I say finish it @ Moorehead. If you don't, years down the road you may look back and really regret it.

    In my humble, worthless opinion.

Well, I, like everyone else here, feel hesitant to offer advice for a situation that is yours and yours alone. Also, I am nowhere near as advanced in my formal education as you are. However, since you are looking for opinions, I will throw mine into the pot.

Even if you are not interested in business anymore, you can hardly beat the power of having completed an MBA. In fact, I can't think of a single profession where it wouldn't at least be useful to have both the knowledge and the added recognition of those three magic letters after your name.

Considering you only have 12 credits left, there is not a school anywhere that you can complete in less time and money than if you go back to Morehead. Even if you transfer to, as was suggested, Excelsior or APU, you would end up paying a LOT more and taking a LOT more classes for a degree from a fully online school with no programmatic accreditation rather than a school with a B&M presence and AACSB accreditation.

If I were you (and of course, I'm not) my decision would not be between MSU and another program, it would be between either going back to Morehead or not going back to school at all (there are, of course, MUCH more important things in life and plenty of reasons why one would not care to finish any degree, and I, of all people, would be one of those most likely to find going back to college unnecessary no matter how close I was to finishing).

Lastly, and most importantly, change happens very quickly in our culture, economy and time. If your 10 years comes to a close, who is to say that you won't be kicking yourself in 25 years because all of a sudden it would mean something to you if you had finished those 4 classes all those years ago.

I agree with Maniac. No matter what field you go into, an MBA under your belt is always a good thing. IMHO, an MBA would apply to so many working situations that you can hardly go wrong. It is one of the most versatile degrees out there.

My counsel on your life situation is this: Get back to improving yourself. It's one of the best ways to ease the pain of a bad situation and to begin to feel good about yourself again. You will feel so good when you finally earn your degree. Go for it! My advice, FWIW.

    Hey Tim,

Good to see you back, sorry for your troubles.

I would say finish it up. A business degree is always useful. I know it may be hard, but why not try 1 class at a time? I realize because of your troubles, this will be hard. Remember, don't be afraid to ask for help, or talk to a professional. If you feel you are depressed (not in the usual sense) then talk to your doctor.

    Take care broheim,

    Abner

I would recommend to stay with Morehead likes the rest of the forum member. Last year, I thought about giving up with SMU; but I still continue to march until this summer to graduate.

    Good Luck!

I want to thank all of you for your input! I will be registering again for courses at Morehead State. It was not depression but an overall lack of confidence. I will be taking it slowly however, I was doing three classes a semester last time. I will probably take one to start off with. Also, I should mention there was a bonus. I was further than I though I only have 3 classes left. It also makes paying those pesky student loans I took out worth something.

My best business advice is finish what you started. 4 classes and that rate $456 per unit is still on the low end. With the MBA under your belt, you can procrastinate on these forums like me looking for a gazillion other interesting programs and research them endlessly, never having to lift a pencil again! LOL

    Best of luck!

Good to hear. 3 classes to an MBA... I'm jealous! I'm even further away from an AA than you are to graduating that program.

Don't forget to make a big announcement here when you are done!

Damn dude!!! Only three more classes! You got it made in the shade.

After about 3.5 years, I am finally finishing up my capstone at Aspen (MBA). It hasn't been easy, and I got a say, there were times when I wanted to give up. Thanks to the encouragement of many here, I did not. There are good people here.

Take easy, I am glad to see you around again.

I agree finish up the degree at Morehead State. BTW, currently I am enrolled with the school, and only have 6 more classes to complete the MBA. If you need any help or would just like to talk about it, let me know.
