Greetings. I just finished a Bachelor's of science in liberal arts from excelsior college. I am being told that Friday is when my degree should be conferred.

I was looking for a Master's in psychology program, and I considered AMU due to all of the classes being eight weeks. I am in the military, and I will be deploying soon. I know education should not be rushed, but I would like to finish it before my enlistment is up in mid 2014.

I read here that you can stagger classes at four weeks, which is a way to essentially go full-time, yet be able to balance things out a bit.

I'm not one to imply AMU is easy, but I'm just wondering: Does anyone have any experience with doing this? Or does anyone have any similar experience from other colleges?

I'm just finishing up my bachelors degree from AMU this semester. The staggering has worked out for me. Usually my normal course load was 2 at week one, 1 at week 4, and 2 and week 8, repeat as needed. Thus I started two classes and at midterm I started another course. I finished the first two, was at midterm with the third course, then started the last two. Sometimes I did more, sometimes less, just depending on the course load.

I know for masters programs it's a whole different game.

I also know that the school was very accomodating for students when needed, especially military. The only thing that ever went wrong is when students failed to communicate with the school.

Bump because I finished the program. I took two courses per semester throughout the program, and had no issues. However, I had lowered stress at work due to a benign deployment pace during the first four courses. Two per term can be done, but it's important to make blocks for study.

    Thank you!

I'm interested in therapy and(or) spiritual counseling. So a Ph.D./Psy.D., MSW, M.Div (Christianity or Buddhism), or psychiatric mental health nursing at the master's level.

Wow, very nicely done. Your enlistment is up this year? Are you going to stay in? I would if I were you, especially right now if you are able to stay in.

    Good luck and nice job.

    Thank you!

I extended my term for two years to accept a new position. Later this year, I am going to apply for basic officer training, the USUHS for clinical psychology, and the Army MSW program (hopefully while joining the Navy Medical Service Corps). Being accepted to the USUHS is my ideal, but I am interested in the others as well. I may attempt to earn an online Ph.D. while commissioned in hopes that I could clinically respecialize later on too.
