Saw a director of a hospital (Chaplin) who had a PhD from Trinity in Indiana and the a Doctorate of Ministry from American University. Kind of made me wonder?? Are they a DL school. Thanks for the info.

    Good news and bad news.

    The good news:

American University in DC is perfectly respectable. It's RA and has lots of specialized accreditations. USNews calls it a second tier doctoral university. It scores 2.9 in peer reputation, equal to the likes of the University of New Mexico, University of San Francisco, Marquette or Temple.

    The bad news:

I don't see that American University offers a D.Min. Here's the degrees that they offer:

I believe that American University is associated with the Methodist Church, so perhaps they once offered a divinity program that has since either closed or spun off into a stand-alone seminary.

Wesley Theological Seminary (United Methodist) in D.C. was originally a div school of AU.
It may (?) still share the same campus, but has been for many years a degree-granting institution in its own right. AU is RA, and WTS is ATS-accredited, so both are completely academically legit.

I misread the degree from American University ---- it states that Dr. _________ earned the Doctorate of Religious Studies from American University, Washington, DC in 2003. Somehow, this seems implausible to me based upon what is contained on their website.

American University's distance/monthly residence masters degree program in Orgnizational Development is highly regarded. It is chaired by a higly respected researcher and author in the field of Organizational Psychology.

Jack, I don't see the Doctorate of Religious Studies listed under their degree offerings. Maybe I missed it.

Wondering if there are two American Universities?

Nope, nothing close to a D.R.S. from AU or WTS. That's not standard degree nomenclature in accredited schools.
