That is good news. I have a friend attending AIU and the controversy over their accreditation probation had her worried about whether she should transfer. AIU Online has been recruiting for a number of leadership positions, perhaps as a result of (or reaction to) their accredition situation.

I hope that AIU does well.

That's great news for students there. I'm glad they fixed the problems they have had!

    AIU off probation

This is good news indeed! I did not attend AIU online, I went to the LA campus, but nonetheless we were worried/annoyed at the whole mess. All the Schools did work with the Alumni (which was very unhappy) to address the problems, and we have done a good job.

I have said this before on this board, and I will say it again. I had a great expirence at AIULA and the degree has served me well, I went on to a program at Cornell and a Masters at Norwich. I am glad this is over, and I am sure that they will continue to improve the schools, AUD (Dubai) was also instrumental in keeping the school accredited.

How did you reach the above conclusion?

Well, I was in regular contact with the School about the issues, and one of the main concerns was the Dubai Campus, since they have poured lots of $$$ into that campus and it has become the flagship school of the system the folks over at CEC were making every effort to keep that school (and all the others) accredited.

I don't disagree with your comment. I intended to state that probation was removed and normal accreditation without any attached string was restored. I am glad that SACS accreditation wasn’t lost by AIU.

    Jonathan,

I have visited the Dubai campus. It’s a very fine campus. The Dubai campus could pursue RA on their own if they choose to do so. I believe that the campus can achieve RA without difficulty. As far as flagship is concerned, I am not aware that AUD is becoming the flagship of AIU or CEC. Note that AIU has several ground campuses. AIUONLINE is just one of its 12 campuses. There is also the London campus. Additionally, CEC owns more than 25 other institutions. Some of them are universities or colleges, and some of them are trade/profession design schools. If you intend to have further discussion on this, you could PM me. I actually know more than I have stated here.

And in related news Texas Tech University, Texas Southern Universty, and University of the Americas-Puebla are put on probation. From the outside at least, it appears SACS reputation as the most difficult regional accreditor is well deserved.

Hum...well, I am sure that that is the case, if they choose to do so. It seems that speaking with the school administrators, and the alumni that the AUD campus gets alot more attention than any of the others, which is why we call it their flagship school. I know that CEC has many other schools, and that AIU is just one of their institutions.

When I was in the LA campus, we felt that the London students had all the perks, now that has shifted to Dubai. All in all, it is just good news that our school is still accredited. Thanks for your helpful insights.

This isn't on the SACS website; where did you obtain this info?

The Chronicle of Higher Ed has a brief excerpt. More is available for those with a subscription.

Texas Southern on probation is understandable. That school has experienced some serious issues over the past 3 years. There's been talk of merging it with the University of Houston or another system. But Texas Tech? I'm very shocked to hear this.

I wonder if these institution will get the same focus as the for-profits do when they are put on probation. It seems like the media and education elitists, who look down on AIU, UoP, or Jones, point out when(or point to) this sort of thing occurs(as to why these are not go schools).
