    Re: The politics of newspeak

Jeff- Your proposal seems to be a fair balance between the extremes, I can live with your descriptions of the different schools. I accept your proposal, and will use this system in the future to describe them. 2+2, we can solve this one later :)

An interesting question is what constitutes a DL degree? I'm currently working on a degree completion program which, when finished, will consist of about 30 units of distance learning and 90 units of B&M course work. A friend of mine is completing a BS at Charter Oak which consists of about 9 units of distance learning and 124 units of B&M course work. Both of our degrees will be awarded by DL colleges, but most of our course work was completed traditionally.

So... if Regional Accreditation is doubleplusgood then Regionally Accredited schools that also enjoy recognized professional accreditation (APA, AACSB, CAA etc) would be: doubleplusgoodplus??

I think that the once-clear dividing line between DL and B&M is blurring.

Many students enrolled in B&M programs take individual DL classes for reasons like scheduling flexibility. And many classroom-based classes seem to be adding some kind of online component, whether assignments, discussion boards, readings, illustrations, worked problems, links or whatever.

I think that we are going to be seeing lots more of this hybrid stuff. It's gonna be harder to determine who is and who isn't a DL student.
