Career diplomas in USA are usually undergraduate. In UK the qualifications go all the way to Doctoral degrees.

Its like degrees in Science Vs degree in Technology.
Bachelor of Technology degree is higher in content of technological classes or Bachelor of Engineering degree has high concentration in ENgineering classes and less some subjects one can find in Bachelor of Science degree.
The same as Bachelor of Engineering etc.

When you look at Qualification as lets say Engineer - you know that this qualification requires degree.

RN is a qualification, every one knows that it requires education and in US at the minimum AS degree in Nursing plus all the exams.

In UK there are recognized authorities that accredit qualifications.
Some are very high level the knowledge required to achieve such levels as 6, 7 or 8.
Many of qualifications can be viewed higher then just the degree as degree only satisfies the education portion of the qualification.
