I am new to this forum and I have watched alot of the discussion on some of the schools and alot of information has been given here and it is much appreciated. I am in the decision phase of enrolling into SCUps DBA program. I would have 42 s.h. credits to complete and a DBA dissertation or DBA project. I have pondered alot about the in some accords between making application to NCU or SCUps as well as considering CPU, but my concern for CPU is that they have made it perfectly clear that they have no intentions of seeking RA and I feel SCUps could pursue it. SCUps curriculum is almost identical for the most part to NCU and I would have most of the same faculty accessible as well.
I am aware they are still only Cal. State approved. Maybe they will go for regional accreditation, but I know the utility and use and still find many faculty at many regionally accredited universities utilyzing their degree program as well. they may have not been hired for that particular degree, but are acknowledged of their degree through their schools.

I would be happy to have any comments, positive and negative and understand the direction of RA will be addressed to me also.

For personal and consulting use along with cost, I think it would be my best option.

I don't see them going RA at SCUPS. If they did that they might as well just merge with NCU now and just have NCU.

Maybe they will go again fro DETC. I don't know how close a shot they had last time. It would offer them some more respect and if these DETC doctorates go well SCUPS would probably fit right in.

    Thanks for replying Bing.

My discussion with SCUps on te previous DETC application is that they were denied on the first go around, " so was everyone else ", and due to the fact they have over 50% of doctoral students enrolled, it would be a tremendous and financial burden on the school and they wanted to keep the doctorals. I was informed by them that they are making changes currently and have plans to initiate a application for RA that will allow for doctoral programs. Should DETC obtain approval and offer doctoral programs, they may so consider, but I feel a RA application could be in the works prior to any DETC finalization. After all, they know what is required as NCU has done it. The expectations should be understood I would feel from their part.

Should I enroll with SCUps, I plan to go in with the understanding that it is a CAL. approved school. Should they get accredited, that would be sheer excitement and a added bonus.

    thanks for replying.

Being in Cali, SCUPS falls within the purview of the Western Association. They (along with the Southern Association) are among the toughest of the RAs when it comes to 100% DL schools. So RA is unlikely, but maybe they'll go for DETC.

Also, their name, "Southern California University for Professional Studies", seems to suggest that they are not likely to pick up and move to Arizona anytime soon in order to go for Northcentral accreditation.

Still, I think in the back of my mind that if Touro was able to get through Western then SCUPS could possibly do it. Maybe the association with Touro College was the primer for that one, though. I still think it's odd for a college to have a branch campus called a university.

Like it or not, agree or not, till the end of time when an employer or reporter searches the Inernet for SCUPS, they will come, among much else, to this:

"Thailand Cracks Down on Diploma Mills

    By Tony Gillotte

[D]iploma mills have been doing a growing business here recently, mainly because of Thailand's rapidly expanding economy and an acute shortage of qualified university graduates in many professions....

Many Thai government officials have been contacted by diploma mills with offers of honorary degrees, which also carry price tags, typically $12,000 to $20,000....

[T]he government's Office of Civil Service Commissions, recently disclosed that the department had blacklisted five U.S. companies that had sold degrees in Thailand under the names"American Coastline University of Louisiana,""Kensington University,""Summit University of Louisiana,""University of America," and "Southern California University of Professional Studies."

Without actual, direct and most recent syllabi comparisons we cannot say for sure that SCUPS and NCU have the exact same curriculum. On the outside chance that it was true, then NCU would be a much better choice, as they are RA.

If it does not matter whether the program is accredited or not at least check out the DETC schools which will soon be offering doctoral programs. Columbia Southern University is one possibility.

    Just a thought.

Here are two actual, direct and most recent syllabi comparisons; in these two instances, we can say for sure that SCUPS and NCU have the exact same curriculums.

    COURSE SYLLABUS

    COURSE NUMBER/TITLE: MGT5006 Organizational Behavior

    FACULTY MENTOR: Stephen Tvorik
Please contact me through the NCU Message System.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS / COURSE GRADE: Your grade for this course will be based upon mastery of course concepts as demonstrated by successfully completing the term assignments and final project. The term assignment consists of preparing chapter/topic summaries and two article reviews.

    Course Participation:
Learners are expected to be involved in a minimum of one scheduled instructional activity per week. To meet this expectation, learners must make contact with their faculty mentor on a weekly basis through one of the following methods:

    · Posting of an assignment (e.g., a paper, project, etc.) in the Course Work area of the Learner’s web site.
    · Posting of an assignment to share with the faculty mentor and other Learners in the course web site (e.g., a review of a book or article, a proposal for a research study, a presentation in the form of a PowerPoint presentation file, reporting on participation in a research study, etc).
    · Participation in a threaded discussion in the course web site (e.g., commenting on a discussion question posted by the faculty mentor, providing feedback to another Learner, etc.).
    · Viewing instructional materials (e.g., a PowerPoint presentation prepared by the faculty mentor, a streaming audio or video presentation, etc.).

Learners must use the NCU messaging system on the course web site to contact faculty mentors. Learners who fail to make contact within the time period of one month may be withdrawn from the course by NCU.

Chapter/Topic Summaries: These summaries should review the major ideas presented in the selected chapters. Each summary should be 3-5 pages and should include the Learner’s evaluation of these concepts. Examples are sometimes helpful in understanding.

Article Review: Two articles, preferably from one of the journals listed below, will be reviewed. Each article should have been published within the last 3 years, and should relate to material covered in this course. The review is to include full bibliographical information for the article being reviewed and any other referenced material, a summary of the article’s content; an assessment of its applicability and comparison to the material covered in this course, and your assessment of the article’s effectiveness. A copy of the article should be attached to the submitted assignment.

    Periodicals:
    Harvard Business Review
    Academy of Management Journal
    Advanced Management Journal
    Organizational Dynamics
    Human Relations
    Sloan Management Review

Articles from business magazines or journals may be used, but the review must include an evaluation and comparison to theory as well as empirical data.

Term Paper: Select a company and evaluate a facet of the organization using the concepts provided in this course. The introduction should describe the company, its industry or products, and its current status. Using a company that you work for now or have worked for in the past may provide insight. The objective is to apply the concepts of the course to a specific example. Case studies from the end of the chapters may be used if you are unable to find a suitable real company example.

    General Requirements
    1. Requirements for outside materials or services
Access to libraries and to current periodicals is assumed. If, for any reason, your access is limited, this should be discussed with me as soon as possible.

    2. Mentor/Learner contact
The first item to be submitted is your flexible schedule constructed in a spreadsheet. Format as a chart, aligned with the syllabus, with specific calendar dates. This schedule is required before you submit any assignments. This schedule should be submitted with updates when you send the group of assignments. The schedule clearly indicates what has been sent in, and what you are currently working on. You may change your schedule as needed – it is a flexible work product.

One of the greatest advantages of distance learning is the personal attention that can be given to meet the needs of the individual Learner. For that reason, the course will begin with a meeting by email or by telephone. I will review the course goals with your background and, if appropriate, tailor the course activities to facilitate meeting these goals.

If you begin before this contact has been established (as may happen if I am out of town for a few days), please provide a short biography with your first assignment so that I can tailor my comments to your background.

    4. Either you or I may initiate additional personal contact as circumstances warrant. The course is planned for assignments to be submitted according to the schedule provided herein.

    Evaluation
    Chapter summaries 30%
    Article reviews 30%
    Final project 40%

Academic Integrity: All work submitted in each course must be the Learner’s own. This includes all assignments, exams, term papers, and other projects required by the faculty mentor. The submission of another person’s work represented as that of the Learner’s without properly citing the source of the work will be considered plagiarism and will result in an unsatisfactory grade for the work submitted or for the entire course, and may result in academic dismissal. To avoid plagiarism, do not “copy and paste” into any assignments without using quotations marks and citing in APA format the source of the material. Your work may be submitted to TurnItIn.com for originality evaluation.

The Pre-Course survey provides important feed back for course improvement. Each Learner’s comments and evaluations give input to course and syllabus improvement. Please be sure to complete the Pre-course survey on your Course Page found by clicking the Course Code.

    RECOMMENDED SCHEDULE FOR COURSE COMPLETION:
    Submit schedule and biography.

    Assignment 1 Weeks 1, 2. Introduction
    Chapter 1; Submit chapter summary.
    Assignment 2 Weeks 3 – 5. Micro Organizational Behavior
Chapters 2, 3, 4, 5; Submit chapter summaries and first article review.
Assignment 3 Weeks 6 -8. Meso Organizational Behavior
    Chapters 6, 7, 8, 9; Submit chapter summaries.
Assignment 4 Weeks 9 -11. Macro Organizational Behavior
Chapters 10, 11, 12, 13; Submit chapter summaries and second article review.

Chapters 14, 15; Submit chapter summaries
Assignment 6 Weeks 15 -16. Complete and submit final project and the final schedule with completed work indicated.

The Post-Course survey provides important feed back for course improvement. Each Learner’s comments and evaluations give input to syllabus improvement and course design. Please be sure to complete the Post-course survey found in Course Review.

John, this is confusing. Your point perhaps has merit if the employer's staff haven't anything better to do with their time than look for a piece of grit such as this. What compelling argument ensues from such a snippet? It's not explanatory. I just "searched the internet" for SCUPS, 195,000 hits, and nothing like this jumped out and bit me. Just searched on "Southern California University for Professional Studies", over 83,000 hits, and this didn't jump out on that search either. I'm not saying it's not there, it's just very easy to overlook. So why bring it up? I suppose if one is predisposed he could find some taint on just about any school.

My point is... employers don't dawdle about spending inordinate hours looking for obscure references such as this. And if found, I would think a bit more substance would be required before any action would be contemplated.

    Hello me again,

I just searched NCU's mentor database and this Professor Bury does not even work for NCU anymore (assuming he EVEN did). Anyhow, how does NCU (or any university with adjuncts or former employees) go about searching through former (if he even was) professors of theirs and ensure that their name/syllabi is removed from their remote links?

How did you get this link? Where is NCU or even SCUPS giving this link to their current students?

    Hi Ace,

There is another thread about the NCU connection to SCUPS, in relation to their educational offerings in Vietnam. It got me curious, so I did a google search and found the links.

Does anyone have experience as to whether NCU would acept a individual who may have completed some DBA coursework with SCUps? Just a curious question.

Mr. Bear, Do you really consider them to be a diploma mill? I mean, for one to have to complete 13 courses in a similar format with adjunct faculty of RA NCU and to complete a doctoral project or dissertation. In addition, absolutely no PLA accepted..period. I do agree that the connection with NCU is either a favorable attachment or a negative on NCU. However, both schools being in different RA locations, maybe if SCUps was in Arizona or Northcentral then it would meet the RA accreditation standards as a 100% DL institution.

Please share your thoughts as well.
