    If she intended to abolish the IRS - she'd likely have more support! :)

    I think when I hear such declarations it usually means a call to reform.
    Just same as calls to de-fund police, was meant to reform re train etc but not really close or eliminate.
    Maybe increase State EDs roles and sphere of activities?

    There's been a movement in the US to abolish ED since the Reagan administration. It's not a call to reform it; it's a call to abolish most of what ED does, and return the rest to the states and/or HHS (which was HEW before ED was split off from it).

    Rick Perry hates the Department of Education so much that he actually remembered it 11 years ago. No one has been able to confirm if he still does.

    EDIT: Replaced an abbreviation, for clarity.

    LOL, I remember that. Then I remember when Trump said that Perry only started wearing glasses to make himself look smart. :D

    Then I guess Perry's glasses went over about as well as Trump deciding his um...odd hairstyle would make him attractive to women. :D

    Then he was posted to the DoE, learned that Energy also secures the US nuclear stockpile and never again mentioned he wanted to abolish it. I don't like Rick Perry for a lot of reasons (his anti-LGBTQ views to pick one), but this is a situation where he truly ate his slice of humble pie.

    Edit: https://www.vox.com/energy-and-environment/2017/1/19/14314296/perry-regret-department-energy

    Rick Perry: now that I’ve learned more about the Energy Department, I regret calling to abolish it

    By USDoE, I meant the ED. I fixed it in my post above in case I caused any confusion with it. Your point is just as relevant, either way!

    It turns out I had these acronyms backwards, you had them right.

    USDoE = Department of Education
    DOE = Department of Energy

    At least according to my Google results.

    If people REALLY want to abolish something, I think they might have a long, hard look at the Supreme Court. Lately ...(shudder). If not abolishment - at least a renovation / rebuild.
