A new bill in Florida would require bloggers writing about Ron DeSantis to register with the state or be fined (msn.com)

GOP, the party of freedom and Constitution. There is an actual law in khuylo's russia designating bloggers with more than a certain number of views as "mass media outlets" and imposing reporting requirements and legal liability for contents of posts. It's even somewhat quaint now that they actually arrest people for retweets. Does maga-fascist faction of the GOP literally sending "law"makers to russia to learn how th make "law".

Earlier, Viktor Vladimirovich deSantis got the right to appoint people to a local government board previously controlled by Disney and immediately stuffed it with ideologues. And then boasted out loud that the board (responsible for roads, water, sewage, sanitation and the like) could use its influence to make sure Disney's entertainment content is not out of line. In addition to "hello, 1st Amendment": sending food inspectors and fire marshals to harass your enemies is straight from post-Soviet corruption playbook since the 90ies. Also, will this stop these people's voters from using the phrase "limited government"?

Read the article. It's worse. It extends well beyond just writing about the governor:

Bloggers would also be required to register with the state if they write anything about Florida's lieutenant governor, a cabinet officer, or any member of the Florida legislature, per the bill.

If you're paid for your writing, you would have to no only register, but also be required to submit monthly reports, including how much you were paid to do so and by whom.

Thank goodness for "small government," huh?

I think DeSantis has the philosophy that the first amendment no longer applies to his state. I think that this law will likely be overturned but, that may take the courts 3 or 4 years. By then he probably won't care anymore.

...probably will not even get passed. This is also a familiar tune - a Dear Leader loyalist sycophant introduces an especially outrageous law, it gets tons of attention, and then the boss shows how moderate and reasonable he is by not supporting it. Meanwhile, no one talks about seven other things they do get passed or just do administratively (in this case, anti-riot act? schools pulling books from libraries? election integrity unit? anti-migrant stunts?). Mordorian "Parliament" pulled this stunt multiple times. That is what is scary, folks: we have a guy who is in some polls a leading contender for POTUS following Orban/khuylo authoritarian playbook. Sometimes word-for-word, just like Pucker Tarson repeats mordorTV talking points almost word-for-word.

DeSantis wants White supremacists to know he hears their grievances and is fighting on their behalf. He seems to be confident they'll go for a Republican. I wonder why that is?

Just offhand...does anyone know whether Ron DeSantis has a soul? He did graduate from Harvard Law (like Ted Cruz) so that's a red flag right there. I can't tell from photographs whether his eyes lack pupils or whether he casts a shadow in daylight. Such things can be photoshopped in of course.

I'm just asking the question here.

So did Michelle and Barack Obama - and I like them both very much. Can't say the same for Mr. DeSantis, though.

Yeah, but the Obamas have soul. Even the DOG had soul (may he rest in peace.)

Meanwhile, this is one page from the Nazi playbook that even the Florida Supreme Court would probably block. What bothers me more is that Ron DeSantis is a lawyer. He knows better.

What I'd really like to know is whether DeSantis sees his reflection in a mirror. Has anyone gotten a good look at his index fingers?
