Most of the long timers here on degreeinfo know me (virtually anyway) and can hopefully attest that I'm not some kind of shyster and that the following is real deal. Here's the skinny, a family I know has a premature baby boy who is struggling. The parents are unemployed since the father had to leave his job as a firefighter in a small city to be with his son (hopefully protected under FML but unpaid either way).

Anyhow their circumstance reminded me a lot of my own so I set up a small, amatuerishly built website to try an raise money and if nothing else, prayers for their situation. If you can help that would be great.

I've blogged in detail about it and linked the donation page here:

So I can send some duckets via pay pal to:

    [email protected].

    Is this correct?

Abner, if you like that will work. I had a "donate" button set up on a little site I built for them but essentially it will do the same thing. I really appreciate everyone's help. I'll be sending the family the money on Monday.

Yeah, I tried that link, but it won't come up on my computer. I will try the link a couple more times, and if it doesn't work, I will just send via paypal.

    Have a good one,

    Abner

Oh, ok. I am going to click and leave it open to see if it will come up by the time I come back from getting a haircut.

    See ya,

Our first-born granddaughter spent her first two weeks of life in intensive care and her first year attached to a monitor. Now she's a healthy, active teenager and driving her parents nutz. May Ryder go forth and do likewise. In Alexa's honor, I've PayPalled (is that a verb?) to Ryder.

Yeah, I just payPalled as well. The link wouldn't open. Little Ryder is in my prayers and meditations.

    Fight hard Ryder!!!!!!!!!

All, I really appreciate the help and the family will as well. You guys have been overwhelmingly generous. As for the link not working, I'll revamp the page tomorrow to see if I can get things working better. PayPal is really weird about pages with frames and the google site doesn't seem to like Mac browsers for some reason. This is why I'm not a developer ;)

  14. Just sent you something. Paypal button seemed to work fine.
    Thanks for doing this.

That was very generous of you Phillip. Everyone on this forum has been great, easily the most supportive and charitable group of folks of any discussion forum I am a member of. I won't say who gave what, but this forum alone has raised about $350.00. You guys have been outstanding. An update on the little guy, he has had a few seizures and is requiring another blood transfusion but I know he'll make it...The family seems to be in good spirits considering all they've been through. They were told they'll be there for at least another week so these donations are just in time. Again thank you.

Everyone I have a happy update for you. Ryder went home last night, back to Texas. He is still under 24/7 monitoring since the hospital sent him home with a pile of monitoring equipment but at least he's out of the NICU.

Your donations saved the day. The parents have not worked in 7 weeks and Ryder's dad returned to the fire department only to find out that they had to fill his position. He's still going back to work but they have to figure out where to put him. I didn't know it but they were living in a Holiday Inn for a while since the hospital ran out of room for them which as you might imagine drained their savings. Their power was scheduled to be cut off on the 28th and they had no way of getting that much needed 1st paycheck before then so it was looking grim. Along come the degreeinfo.com donations right on time, paid the electric bill, bought groceries and necessities and basically saved the day. I'm proud to have been a part of this and I'm proud of you all here. We may disagree at times but I respect each and every one of you here as a person and a humanitarian in general. God bless all of you.

They’re not out of the woods yet though so if you could keep them in your prayers it would be much appreciated.

    friendorfoe,

Please do me a favor and weigh on my thread entitled "Question for cops or ex-cops" as soon as you can. I would appreciate it.

    Thanks,

    Abner

ForF: We have you to thank for letting us know about this. If they still have financial difficulties back home, the Salvation Army or Catholic Charities is a good start. Everyone needs a hand from time to time, they need not be ashamed. My family was very poor, we lived in the projects and we were given food at thanksgiving, etc. Memories of those early days keeps me motivated to continue to work, even though I am old enough and solvent enough to retire.
