Cheney Uses a Big-Time Obscenity (and suggests an anatomical improbability)

 

Like none of us have ever said the exact same thing???

 

Yeah, but the standard is different for the Family Values bunch. What would Pat Robertson say??

 

Who cares? Pat Robertson doesn't represent me, nor does he represent most Conservatives.

Sometimes in life, especially in the dirty world of politics, Cheney's retort is entirely appropriate. That goes for both sides of the political aisle.

 

As a conservative clergyman, I don't give a sh*t what Pat Robertson says. He's a heretic and a political loon. (Asterisk included for leftists and other wowsers.)

Just what did Cheney say? I refuse to register with the Washington Post for ANY reason. The only thing worse would be the Moon Shine Daily (Wash. Times).

 

When Sen. Patrick Leahy got on him about Halliburton, Cheney told Leahy to go "F" himself. The Post printed the actual verb.

My criticism isn't his use of the word, but the rudeness and incivility it represents. It would not be acceptable behavior in most workplaces, and certainly not in the U.S. Senate. What kills me is the hypocrisy represented in those from the administration who are defending it.

Talk about conduct unbecoming....

 

Notably absent is what Senator Leahy said to Vice-President Cheney before the infamous statement. Knowing the slant that the liberal media puts on everything, I tend to think that Cheney was provoked.

 

And I tend to think Cheney is a hothead with little sense of judgment or decorum. He and his puppet have failed utterly in what Bill Clinton did most successfully: leading from the middle. Selected by a minority (not even a plurality) of voters, that administration has acted as if it had a massive mandate from the masses, instead of a barely-won electoral college majority. It is dismissive of all who inquire--the media, other government officials, the public, and (most of all) the opposition party. The only thing that saved this administration from self-destruction was 9/11. Well, they've bungled that, too, and now the American people are tired of it. Cheney and his ilk are about to lose an election they have absolutely no business losing--except, of course, that they're doing what comes naturally and voters are tired of it.

Bye-bye, Dick.

Of course, I could be wrong and the Bush/Cheney ticket could win re-election.

 

Both Harry Truman and Lyndon Johnson were a heartbeat away from the presidency. Judging from their experience, a willingness to use colorful language now and then might not be an entirely bad thing.

I guess the Democrats' new politically-correct 'Wimp Criterion' wouldn't accept Truman's or LBJ's suitability for leadership either.

But there's a more serious and more local issue, in my opinion. That's the attempt, in this and in other threads, by more than one individual, to divide Degreeinfo.

We all share an interest in DL. We should be allies. We could even be friends.

Dividing us on political (or national or religious) lines has the potential of creating lasting bitterness and resentment. It runs the risk of exacerbating the personal hostilities that already blight this board.

In the long run, it only hurts the cause of distance learning.

 

Y'know, this is the second thing Cheney's done that I like.

The first thing was rescuing the state funeral for Reagan from the partisan screeds by Ted Stevens and Denny Hastert.

True. But I think that this board is a microcosm of the country. The uniter has divided us in half. With plenty o' bitterness and namecalling to go around. Personally, I'm really sick of both sides.

 

Maybe it's just me, but I'd much rather that someone tell me "fuck yourself" than call me a "Nazi brown shirt".

Ah, the tolerant and compassionate left, again.

 

Are we forgetting good old JF Kerry presidential hopeful giving a Vietnam vet the finger here in DC at the Vietnam memorial only a few weeks ago? It means the same thing. It goes to show that both Republicrats and Democans are human and very much politicians.

I lean more to the liberal side myself but I have many very conservative friends. (Otherwise living in San Diego things would get very lonely. ) I would like to think that I can be friends with Bruce and accept him and his political views, wrong though they may be.

 

Perhaps it doesn't say anything especially good about our VP that he dropped the F-bomb on the Senate floor but let's not make it a bigger issue than it really deserves.
