Home Anybody buy this book or have any clue whats included in it? I don't want to buy it and it ends up being a scam, or tells you all about FEMA and clep tests or something useless. Any insight much appreciated, John
This sounds like FEMA: "My 13 year old son Kalan just completed my book and has been awarded over 70 certificates and 40 college credits!" Who else has 70 certificates? Also quotes show "I got the 40 credits like you said, and it didn't cost me anything but one fax fee at Kinkos. " Sounds like a transcript request to FEMA.
I find it hard to believe that College Board would "sponsor" such a product. Much about the site and the linked blog doesn't ring true. You can likely find the answers you need from folks here without spending your bucks.
Realistically, if something like this existed, what is the likelyhood that they know it and we dont? I agree that it sounds like fema, and i dont think it unlikely that the author learned of it from reading this site.
I don't need to read one thing on that web site to know it is a scam. It looks like every other scam web site out there. It might as well say "Lose 30 lbs in 30 days" or "Increase Your Breast Size -- Naturally!"
>> And EVEN IF they are free credits, I know of no degree plan that would accept 40 free electives. So, it could as easily be 100 free credits- where can you use them? And since we are talking about it.....just because it's ACE evaluated doesn't mean the college accepts the credit. So, simply being awarded 40 credits by (FEMA?) somewhere doesn't mean that they'll get accepted anywhere. My advice: visit your college's free website, use their free search box to find their written policy on alternative credits and transfer credits. Find out which and how many CLEP/DSST exams are accepted and if they consider ACE reviewed courses (FEMA/ALEKS). Find out how many CC credits you can transfer into your degree plan from elsewhere (Clovis). At that point, you already have MORE INFORMATION and than you'll likely get from a college advisor...save MORE TIME than the average 6 year plan student, and eligible to save MORE MONEY than the everyone in your English 101 class. It's a fact. The REAL money and REAL time to be saved you already know about. P.S. All that I just told you, I learned here. For free.
I just spent a few minutes reading the site and blog. I'd bet a dollar that Charlie and the author are the same guy. I'd also bet Charlie is a long time lurker over at IC. I won't out him, but it's fun to read. And, yeah, it's FEMA.
Thats what I assumed with the certificates, and the ad I found on the google search mentioned something about government credits, something along those lines, first thing I thought was FEMA. But all my previous searches I've never come across this website before so I figured I'd bring it to the wisdom of the board for a ruling, and it seems like a 100% waste of money. If it seems to good to be true, it usually is, but it doesn't hurt to investigate a little.
Except for being sponsored by the Internal Certified Emergency Management Association, are there any other ways to study FEMA courses for credits for non-us citzens?
I liked the gratuitous religious reference. If he says that he's Christian, he can't possibly be a liar, right? -=Steve=-
I also like that he lists as "Sponsors" WGU, TESC, Excelsior, UoP, and, um, FAFSA? So these institutions are paying for ad space on his "free credit" website? And the lowest in-state tuition in the entire state of Virginia is $313 per credit? So Virginia doesn't have a Community College system?
