    Hi,

I have been taking some graduate accounting classes in order to qualify for adjunct positions in accounting. My problem is that I don't seem to know if some of the finance classes that I took would be considered accounting or if the 18 hour requirement should be in pure accounting classes.

I have completed the following accounting graduate classes

    Taxation
    Intermediate Financial Accounting
    External Auditing
    Managerial Accounting

I have also completed the following finance graduate classes:
    Financial Management
    Portfolio Management
    Financial Theory

I wonder if the finance classes would satisfy the 18 hours requirements or I would need to take some extra classes. Anyone with experience with this that could give me some feedback would be appreciated.

The #1 credential for teaching accounting courses is the CPA. I have been teaching for years and I only have 6 hours in my MBA in accounting (another 6-9 in Finance, 18-21 in Management/Production Operations)

I have taught both Accounting & Finance at the undergrad level at both B&M & online, and accounting at the graduate level online. (I have 10+ years in the field too, that was the requirement for teaching/masters level.)

If you are already a CPA, you could start applying now, if not, that seems to be the requirement I see the most often in their ads. (Of course now the Terminal degree keeps coming up which is why I am looking at a PhD in Accounting)

    Good luck!

I was under the impression is was what the class stated on your transcript (prefix)

Do they all start off with Acct 1010 (for example)? If so then you should be fine.

The previous post might have a better idea though :)

The courses that I finished have the prefix ADMIN but they were part of an accounting graduate certificate.

Thanks for this, I have a DBA in Information Systems and wanted to teach as an adjunct some Accounting Information Systems classes but I was told that I needed 18 graduate hrs in Accounting for this. I don't have a CPA but completed a CFE and have a canadian Accounting designation.

    Rfvalve,

I'm a tenured accounting prof and teach AIS and MIS at the undergrad and graduate levels. My PM was returned because your mailbox is full - could you clear it out or PM me with your email address?
