    UZ offers DTh/DPhil, not PhD.

    Good "luck."

    Kevin,

    I know ; I joke.

Danny has been home for a couple of weeks ; he goes back for 6 more months ,or more, on 12-3.

He hates it there ; no joke.

    Bill,

I'm really sorry your son is in that mess in Iraq. Personally, I feel we need to get out of there, but I cannot see anyway to do that without bringing in a huge mult-national force and reducing our troop presence.

Sadly, I don't know that the rest of the world would go along with such a plan. We've really stepped into a mess and now getting out and saving face at the same time appears to be more of the problem than anything else.

My prayers are with your son and the rest of America's children who are trapped in this terrible situation.

BTW, is there a difference between a PhD and a D. Phil.?

Perhaps I will persue the ThD. I'll figure that out when I get there. :)

    Thanks again.

    Thanks.

As I understand my UZ catalogue the DPhil, (Doctor of Philosophy) is only given in Biblical Studies. However, the DTh may be in Practical Theology, Systematic Theology, Biblical Studies, History of Christianinty, NT, or OT. Some of these areas requires languages.

Oh d*mn I just spilled a whole bottle of diet pepsi all over the desk. Can't let all that caffeine go to waste. I sure hate having to lick my desk like that. Waste not want more.

Hi Bill: We'll keep your son in prayers. More power to him. Fighting national-socialism (Ba'athism) is still a good thing.

Hi Shawn: Also, at some SA universities, you must have the biblical languages to get the doctor of theology. If you lack one or both, you are eligible for the doctor of philosophy. Technically, the former slightly outranks the latter, I have been told by SA profs.

    Thanks Unk re Dan.

My UZ catalogue also makes a comment implying the DTh is a higher degree there than the D. Phil which agrees with what those SA profs have said to you. The catalogue stipulates that, "This is the highest qualification in the faculty..." The MTh is said to be a prereq whereas in the D. Phil a MA in Biblical Studies is the prereq. It is a bit confusing as at UZ the MTh. -assuming MTh=ThM - course of study looks like an MA to me [much unlike USA ATS/RA standards where a part of the four year ThM is at times credited toward a doc] .
