I'm brand new to this list and I have several questions that have been accumulating over the years only because ,until now, I had no forum on which to bring them up. I am so glad I stumbled on this discussion group!

    My first question is:

Does anyone know of a central web site (or sites) for Australian DL courses and programs that would save the time consuming hassle of visiting each separate school's web site?

    (More questions to follow!)

    Be careful ...

The 2 listings referred to above are probably as good as you'll get without doing your own research, but:

    1. The News list is very incomplete
    2. The Good Guides are a good starting point but you will need to check to verify - [a] entry criteria for the degree, whether it is fee based or HECS, as I have found in both areas inaccuracies from time to time.

It really depends on what you want to do as most Australian Universities offer DL, and some better than others. I'd start by checking Monash, Deakin, UNE, then maybe UniSA, CQU CSU and USQ. Are you prepared for any onsite attendance at any stage?

Remember that quality and rigour vary greatly, as does acceptability. Many mass marketed post graduate degrees will nor permit you entry if you have a similar degree at first level, as they are essentially repackaged undergraudate degrees.

There is also confusion as to what the actual degree 'is'. You must be very clear about what you are looking for and what you actually purchase, as a repackaged UG as a masters can bear the same name as a true high rigour masters from somewhere else - examples are in the IT field. Other examples are in education where one place will require a 4 year post graduate BEd for entry, and others will let anyone in to their MEd. If you take these 'easy' choices just be aware that most recruiters will also be aware.

You are cutting it pretty fine for 2004 ...

I have noticed this. The Diploma programs at UNE, for example, seem more challenging than many (most?) of the full Master's programs at USQ.

This was a surprise to me because I thought the AQF would take care of such discrepancies.
