    Sorry about the spelling.

My classes just ended and had to keep an eye on the students.

    Re: Bridgewater U.

I have a lot of respect for someone who becomes a Physician's Assistant, it's no mean feat, but it hardly qualifies anyone to be a Clinical Instructor in Epidemiology.

I've never "outed" anyone outside this forum, but I'm very tempted in this case.

Good or bad the prof is making the money and his superiors are liking it!!

I guess we must be all aware of who is who in our small world.

Does Casa de Porteiro have any special meaning in Portugese, and does anyone have a map of Foz De Arouce?

    Dear Dr. Bear,

First I would like to say that I have followed your books for years....long before it was printed in all its glory (and beauty). I really do remember the early days. I think it was spiral bound...but the info was right on the money. In this case you could not judge a book by its cover.

Your current books are really nice. The humor is great and I quoted your book numerous times in various papers that I submitted in educational courses I was taken in my M Ed. program. We actually have a copy of your book in both of our admission offices. These are great for our students who need some credits and need an accredited source.

Now to your question. Our admission office frequenty (at least every couple of weeks) come across an applicant who attended a school that is not in any books that we have. We do try Starregistry.com to see if the school happen to be there, to no avail. We also look in your book. These prospective students claim that that their school was accredited. But are they accredited by a legimate accrediting agency? As you probably know, some of these accrediting" agencies have the same address as the school. Should we be skeptical?

Anyway we have no choice but to put the responsibility back on the student to prove accreditation status. That is an approach for the one seeking an inquiry from you. As you know we cannot simply accept what the student said even if he attended the University of South Florida Blvd.

I really enjoy your books. You did an excellent job and a worthy service for many many people, for many years.

    Sincerely,

    Charles M. Frye

I think the above post by Mr Fry belongs on the thread called "I own an unaccredited school." It may have been posted here by mistake.

To Uncle Janko: No, Charles Frye posted to the right thread. You have to look way up at Dr Bear's original post here, and consider two possible interpretations of Dr Bear's question "Any thoughts?" ("Any thoughts on how to get info on Bridgewater?" vs "Any thoughts on how to deal with the applicant in the absence of info on the school?")
Does anyone have more details on this case?

"ScD, Bridgewater University, London, 2003" has just been deleted from the Web page. Ta-da!

It doesn't matter if Roffers' bogus degree was in Sociology or Basket Weaving.....listing it on the webpage explictly implied that the Sc.D. was in a health-related field.

At least Emory did the right thing and removed it.

Steven D. Roffers no longer appears on Emory’s Web site listing the Department of Epidemiology faculty. Ka-Boom?

Here is Dr Richard Evans' first-hand account of obtaining a degree from Bridgewater University.

I asked: "Steven D. Roffers, the 'senior associate, clinical instructor' in 'Cancer surveillance and control" who recently resigned from Emory University after having been listed on an official Emory Web page with a 'ScD, Bridgewater University, London, 2003', said 'he had to do actual coursework for his degree, though not a thesis' and that he did the work over a period of four years. Dr Evans, could you please compare or contrast this with your own experience getting a Bridgewater doctorate?"
I asked: "From what source (Website, ad, etc.) did you originally learn about Bridgewater? How much time elapsed between your first contacting Bridgewater and receiving your diploma? Do you have any evidence of their attempting to verify your 'self-evaluation'?"
I asked: "Do you have any evidence of their attempting to verify your 'self-evaluation'? (Or is that part of what you're bound by legal contract not to reveal?) On a different subject, have you ever tried to obtain a degree through http://www.instantdegrees.com?"

Skolli asked: "Can you reveal how much the Bridgewater doctorate cost?"

A classic example of someone getting a high-ranking position and wheelbarrows full of money performing the duties of such a position...

Sven Otto Littorin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sven-Otto Littorin was, until recently, the Minister of Employment in the Swedish government. He held several high-level positions in government that had to do with business economics. He had no formal degree in business but had a Fairfax U MBA.

Just an aside (that has nothing to do with this conversation) - Bridgewater State College in Massachusetts is now Bridgewater State University. MA decided to change their colleges into (magic: POOF!) universities, so Bridgewater, Salem State, Framingham State, etc., etc. are now all state universities instead of state colleges.

I was looking at one of the websites (forget which) and it stated that there is no change in the structure, etc.

So I guess it's all about the name!

    Sheesh...:(
