I wasn't one who helped you but am one who appreciates your help in providing feedback on your progress and test experience.
Congratulations on a fine achievement. Your comments on the tests you took are helpful -- and suggest to me that it might be a very useful thing to have a test forum on this site, where people could share information on preparing for, taking, and ranting about the various available tests. johndeelcerrito
Congrats passing that many exams saved you some serious butt time in boring classes. I had 42 sh's myself and never missed a minute of that lost classroom time. Good luck on your next step whatever it is.
Well, I just got my last grade back (for the notorious ECE English Comp test), a "C", and I am now officially through taking tests and working on my bachelor's. Thanks to everyone over the past 6 months that has helped me by posting things or sending me information. This is a great little community. Indeed, and as it happens, one is due to be launched on the BA in 4 Weeks web site shortly. This of course augments the existing comprehensive exam difficulty index, book lists, and the graduate profiles section where individuals have presented their unique experience, to include their exams and exam material preferences.
CONGRATULATIONS! Can you tell me or anyone out there what the cost of getting a degree by this method runs? I do not have any disposable income and I have found that Excelsior does not give much in the way of financial aid since they are not a conventional university. But if anyone knows how much each of these tests and the cost of transferring the credits to Excelsior and the cost of then of them granting a degree, I would greatly appreciate it. Then I will at least know how much I have to find. thanks donna
Donna - I just completed an Excelsior degree using this method and it cost me under $5000-. I hope to post the details shortly in a new thread. mayerz
Hi Donna Welcome to degree info. Quite a few degreeinfo regulars, not to mention thousands of others, have found the Big Three to be a great way to tie together credits from many sources. As to costs and details please read Lawrie's site which is linked in his signiture. As to the cost to you, you would need to make a list of credit already earned and what it would cost to have transcripts sent to Excelsior. Then make a list of the tests you would need to finish off the degree. I believe if you needed all 120 credits it would cost about $3600. If you have 60 credits then something around $2600. This is just a guess and will vary depending on which tests you need to take. I believe EC also takes monthly payment so that may be an option. Hopefully others with more info can also respond. Good luck.
The exams cost: $45 (DANTES), $50 (CLEP), and $160+ (ECE). Most places will want about $20 for a proctoring fee (per exam). Included in the cost of the exam is the option to forward the results (transcript) of the exam to a school of your choice.
