Well folks, It seems like it was only yesterday I was making my first post on this forum. Who can believe it has been three years! It has been an adventure. I'm this close ( l l ) to finishing my MBA at CCU! I'd like to look into a PhD. program in leadership or management sciences. Originally I was thinking of continuing with CCU, but since they are candidates for accreditation with the DETC, they have stopped taking applications for their PhD. programs. A lot of the “good” California state approved programs in other schools are also taking this same route, which leaves me looking. Does anyone have any advice on a school that would consider me as a candidate? Any positive, constructive, realistic, non – biased advice would be appreciated. Thanks. Veritas, Michael
Thanks Dr. Dave, I saw that, however I would prefer a PhD program rather than a DBA. I like the idea of a research based degree. Veritas Michael
Yes. California Pacific University (state approved) is not seeking DETC at this time and still offers its DBA program. Why not check it out to see if it will meet your needs?
Put it in a frame.... But seriously. My plan is to enrich my understanding of the managerial/leadership art and science. Possibly write, consult, and speak. I definitely plan on applying the information that I research into my professional career. Veritas, Michael
Re: Is that all? Here's my two cents: If at all possible, defer the awarding of your degree until after CCU gains accreditation.
Have you tried North Central University? Since CCU will get DETC accreditation, I would suggest to look for DBAs or PhDs from overseas universities. I know that australian universities normally accept DETC graduates son perhaps your CCU can get you admission in an australian university. In the US most the online universities ask for a RA MBA for admission but perhaps things can be negotiated with some extra credit work.
We should probably be a little careful with language here. As far as I know, DETC has not conferred accreditation on Cal Coast, and, by policy, DETC does not grant "candidacy" or anything that implies that accreditation will be forthcoming. As such, we can *speculate* that it's likely that Cal Coast will achieve DETC accreditation (given DETC's checkered history granting accreditation to more than one less-than-wonderful program) but I think it's probably unwise to represent that it's a done deal.
A little be sarcastic, but the answer to the question "What now?" is a simple "Do a real MBA" or "Make some business cards with the new degree" As indicated in many of the posting here, the CCU degree has many limitations and it is not something that could be used for "A next step".
