This reported by Reuters, appearing at Yahoo. Student's paper shows how to beat copy-protection software on a new music CD. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20031009/wr_nm/media_bmg_protection_dc Roscoe
Suncomm have since reconsidered their position and have elected not to pursue a lawsuit. Smart idea. Basically, their copy-protection scheme relied on the lack of computer knowledge for the average music-buyer. However, every one of these people are likley to have a computer-savvy friend or relative who could tell them that pressing the SHIFT key would bypass the autorun and defeat the copy-protection scheme. Any scheme that is bypassed with a FEATURE of the Windows operating system si quite simply inadequate to the task. I think it also points out how insidious the Digital Millenium Copyright Act is in supressing free speech.
