    Erwin,

Distance & on-line learning is convenient and versatile.

But not as good as the original (face to face interactive/experiential learning).

    . . . . in some ways, a bit like frozen pizza . . . . . . !!!

I can't imagine NOT being in a classroom/lab environment, but then again, I'm a physics major.

There's a big difference between reading about computed tomography--- and taking a microwave transmitter/receiver combination, hooking it up to a computer, and finding targets in a foam head.

My school (Wittenberg University) is making a huge push to become the college of choice for non-traditional students in this area...

    With their

LEAD Program , they've established a target of subsidiizing adult student tuition to the point where it would cost me more money to attend the nearby state school, Wright State University (www.wright.edu).

That's the reason I went back to school full-time as a 'quasi-traditional' student-- my wife would never let me get away with buying lasers, optics stuff, electronics breadboards if I weren't a physics major.

(Yegads. I'm 30 with 2 kids, and I'm a physics major-- with a chance at gradschool, even. What on EARTH was I thinking.)
