    I hadn't seen it before.

"David Smith, the new deputy superintendent of facilities and construction, claims two bachelor's degrees and one master's degree from St. Regis University, an online diploma mill accredited only in the Republic of Liberia.

Smith resigned before he even started. At least he spared the district the embarrassing decision of whether to lower standards for a grown-up with questionable ethics while raising them for struggling kids."

He wasted all that money on an SRU degree and all he accomplished was making it clear to everyone how he is severely lacking in integrity. That silly atlas1212 fellow is going to accuse us of somehow bullying him into resigning in shame!

No. I don't care one way or the other about the acceptance of an SRU degree. It just seems more effective in a job that is not high profile.

It has been a dozen years since I first bought Dr Bear's book. A hobby of mine when a school superintendent or local figure shows up with a doctorate is to determine the source. It has only been a few but I haven't found a bad one. I don't bother with medical people, but maybe should.

If I had found a degree mill degree, I certainly would have shared the information.

Someone with an otherwise exemplary career could be ruined because of a simple indiscretion.

Nowadays, all you have to do is a search on the school name along with "degree mill" or "diploma mill" and the results come flying at you.

I would not stake my career on such an easily verifiable thing. 99.9% of the people don't know or care but the .1% who do can cause amazing grief.

I've said several times that one of the best things I've gained from BG is the habit of checking people's credentials. How many people actually know where their Optometrist gained his/her degree? Yes, I checked mine, and she received a D.O. from Ohio State.

Eye opening! ( no pun intended )

I have never checked people's credentials in the past, but I am going to in the future. This is an example of another bit of information that I have learned here.

    Thank you.

I agree. Moreover, you never know what interesting information you might discover. For example, my ophthalmologist graduated from Harvard (not surprising, as he is one of the country’s leading glaucoma researchers at the nation’s premier eye hospital). The interesting thing is that he is pursuing a M.P.H. (Masters in Public Health) from John Hopkins via distance education. He tells me he really looks forward to my biannual visits, as I am one of the few individuals who understand his travails.

It is fun jerking your chain, Mr. 1212. See my secret mind control ring that allows me to bully the truth out of people seems to even be working on you. :)

BTW, I agree that using a degree mill degree at a less conspicuous job probably is a better idea that way if/when the time bomb goes off at least it won't be on the news.

Oh dear. Bruce is screwed. A D.O. is a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. The degree one would expect of a Doctor of Optometry is the O.D.

On the other hand, maybe the degree does read "O.D." but Bruce's eyes are so bad that he misread it? :D :D Should have gone with the St. Regis optometrist!

I think his eyes were fine. The key here isn't D.O. or O.D., but was "SHE". That's what distracted him. :)

Because the lying is then exposed to less scrutiny?
