    Hi,

I found this website for a Canadian version of UNISA at : http://www.iaci-canada.com/

Is this legit? Has anyone heard of this?

    Thanks,

I have never heard anyone complain about them. They send a quick computer generated response. They help negotiate the paperwork.

It would be nice to hear from folks who have gone through them.

UNISA itself is certainly venerable and has a number of well known grads. A Yahoo search will show faculty members at US Schools with UNISA doctorates. Dorothy Patterson the wife of former Southern Baptist Convention President Paige Patterson has two doctorates (one from Luther Rice & the other from UNISA).

    Good luck to you!

    RamonaQ,
Very legit! Send an email to Dr. Michael Esselen of ICA for more information.

GAAP accredited and one of the best universities in South Africa. I'm currently doing my DLitt et Phil degree through them.

    A Queen's graduate eh?:)

Ahhh but it is not the University of Saskatchewan. When I graduated the diplomas were still prinited in Latin. Someone in the US saw it and asked where Saskwach (??) University was. Maybe this belongs under the thread of funny university names.

    "the times are a chang'in"

The U. of Saskatchewan is still relatively unknown to most North Americans. Many students and graduates of U. of S. still have a tough time convincing their peers that this university actually exists (unless you're Canadian).

The University of Ottawa still prints its diplomas in Latin.

    Hi,
Thanks for your emails. I did write to UNISA Canada and then sent me an 18 page Word Document, outlining their program. It looks really good. I'll let you know what I decide to do !

I did graduate from Queen's. My BA degree paper certificate is completely in Latin! My Education degree and Bachelor Science are totally in English. I think it's a tradition thing with the BA.

Most Canadians and university students here have never heard of Athabasca University too.

    Thanks,
    Ramona

    RamonaQ,
If you go on ICA's web site there is a link that will direct you to the admissions site. You can request a prospectus and application form if you are interested.
I attended and graduated from York University, U of T. and the University of Windsor. The degree certificates were printed in English. It's too bad these institutions didn't use Latin. Using Latin adds a touch of elegance to the diplomas.

    warmest regards,

Yeah, and most Canadians don't overpay for their university studies by going to Queen's, either.

When I graduated from the U of Alberta over 30 years ago all literate students got degrees in Latin. Those not in the Faculty of Arts received degrees printed in English.

    Hi,
Thanks for your help. I think it is great that UNISA has a center in Canada. I'm hoping they open an exam center in Kingston. I could go to Toronto (they have a center) there, I'm about 2 hours away by train.

I wonder why they don't let other colleges protor exams? When I write exams for Athabasca university, I have them to sent to a testing center at a local college.

I like that my BA degree printed in Latin, even the name of the university is in Latin. I was definately surprised when I first got it. I went to Queen's, because I'm from Kingston and didn't have to spend money to live in residence. They also offered Con-Ed, so I could do my BA/BSC concurrently with my BEd. I don't have a student debt. I took 9 courses by correspondence DL during my time at Queen's (7 from Athabasca University).

You did BA (on-campus) right? and BSc/BEd through distance learning from Queens ? As far as I know they only allow you to pursue one degree at a time. They allowed you to do 3 degrees at a time ?? How ??

Hi Ramona - My understanding is that the exam sites on the standard list include only those sites regularly used and "pre-approved." It is entirely possible that you can have an exam site established closer to your location if you are willing to go through the required process. My experience is that the school is reluctant to discuss this with anyone who is NOT already an enrolled student. This may mean that you'll have to take that train ride once or twice before you've successfully managed to establish an exam site closer to your home. If you plan to be enrolled for a period of years then it may well be worth the effort.
    Good luck,
    Jack

I did all my degrees on campus at Queen's. Queen's has a special concurrent education program, so you can pursue two degrees at once. I did my BSC (Honours Comp Sci) and my BEd at the same time, spread over 5 years. I took extra courses from Queen's and Athabasca & overlapped credits to get my degrees from Queen's. :) It took a lot of work. I got the BA first.

Thanks everyone for all your finding an MEd online tips. I never realized there were so many options!
